I have searched the forums and the photo album but I just cant seem to find the connector that everyone is talking about ethier under the generator or anywhere on it. Does anyone have a picture of it? I can stop the generator from inside the coach but I cannot start it. It starts and stops fine from the outside.

i didnt see anything like the black connector but I did find the white connector. Everything looked clean when I took it apart. Put it back together and it still wont fire from the inside. Took apart the panel on the inside and everything looks good there too.

James Hupy wrote on Sat, 04 June 2011 17:27 | Michael, that black connector is not inside the generator armature housing.
It sometimes is laid up inside the frame channel, It contains the remote
conductors for starting, stopping and the hour meter. It often times is
wrapped with vinyl tape, and is frequently full of corrosion and loose
connections. You will have to pull out the power drawer and get under the
coach to find it.

On our 74 this plug was on the floor of the power drawer cabinet. Laying in a bunch of dirt and goop. Very hard to see. Harder to get at.

Thats exactly where mine is and the only way to reach it is to remove the Gen. Aint gonna happen soon as long as I can start at the gen set manually.
The Gen side of the wiring goes to the board, that is in reach, goes around the back ( out of reach ) where the plug is located then then out the side of the Gen Set Compartment. Now, I like the GMC and these days it is getting more difficult to find areas where the OEM installation is the same as it came down the assembly line. This plug is one of them and even though it was a standard production practice, how hard would it have been to locate this plug elsewhere?
I have been contemplating cutting the wire from the outside, splicing in a new cord, run it through the cabinet and connecting at the genset board. I was thinking using a trailer connector, the black rubber, 4 conductor you can get most anywhere, locating it a couple inches near the board so it is in reach if needed, put some vasoline on the contacts, put it together and electric tape over the two to seal it. The wires seem to be color coded so should not be a problem to splice in a new piece to get going again. Might attempt this project this Summer.
