Some may have read my other thread about my new Silvertone airbags being too short at full extension.

I'm wondering what is the normal airbag extension at normal ride height? I seem to be about 1" low at the back at my automatic ride setting, and my airbags are at ~15" total from arm to arm, so if I got them up to proper ride height they will be 15.5"plus.

I looked at the length of the emergency airbag substitutes and they show either 13.5" or 15", so that makes me wonder was their 2 different arms? or?

http://gmcmotorhome.info/rear.html#bagrod

Obviously mine has the 15" length.

Or was 13.5" the airbag length for 16.5" bias ply tires and 15" is now the length with 16" radials?

I looked at the spec for the Firestone 5412 (Silvertone). It
has a minimum of 6.7" and a max useful extension of 14.5".
A custom bracket makes up the difference between the stock
airbag and the 5412 (1T14F-1 airbag).

Bill

Bruce,
The Firestone part I looked at is W01-358-5412.
It has a 5 inch long piston with internal bump stop.
I think you might have the W01-358-5405 airbag.
The 5405 has a 3.62" long piston. It has less travel.

Regards,
Bill

Yes I have the W01-358-5405, hence the cause of my problems. The longer piston will sure make a difference.

What I was wondering is, what is the typical air length (from arm to arm) when a coach is sitting at the OEM spec'd ride height.

The reason I asked is there two stated lengths for emergency airbag substitutes, 13.5" and 15". Mine sit at 15" and my ride height is a bit low. I wonder where the 13.5" figure came from?

On my coach that would put me several inches low.

Just wondering if 13.5" was normal and thats why my new bags seem too short.

Bruce,
My coach has 13" between the arms and rides a little high.
When I jack it up all the way it has 18.25" arm to arm.

Bill

Bill,
That is very interesting. That must mean there are 2 different styles of bogie arms.
Mine is an early 77 Palm Beach. what model is your coach?

No way--I suspect people have differnt ideas what ride height is and where they measure.

Bruce,
I remeasured the arm to arm distance.
I have 13" to 14". The right side is more than
the left side.

Bill
