i think is what it is called, somehow will keep gmc from going past second gear.
i assume this is a 10 dollar or less part,
is this a 10 minute install, 1 hour install, half day or?
and again, pics really hel the brain cells piece the puzzle together, also, where do we get ? how many carry a spare?
thanks bgk

The governor has to come out. More than one was caused by a bad cruise control transducer locking up. If your speedometer jumps around you need to fix it or you could be replacing the governor gear. Of course it could just be the cable but be fore warned.

If you have headers the bad news is the left header has to be removed in order to get the governor out. So it could be a ? days job, depending on broken or stripped bolts and obtaining gaskets.

clarification please,
i see post that if gear goes, then want shift, i know i can not drive many miles in trans stuck in 1st,
if speedo jumps, then i assume gear in trouble, or maybe grease in speedo from sitting too long, if just speedo i assume trans will stil shift,
if cruse transducer locks, then i assume gear then gives, then back to original problem of trans not shifting.
for sake of just wanting to get back home on unknown coach, if speedo init works, would it be wise to disconnect the cruise transducer as a just in case item?
i dont think i am as stupid as i may sound, i know i am inexperienced and just trying to get informed. i assume if speedo does not work i caqn pace myself with traffic, but i do need trans to work,
thanks

If it were me, and you are faced with an unknown condition I would disconnect the cable from the transmission to the cruise control and disconnect the other cable that goes to the speedo from the cruise control. Test that cable and see if the speedo jumps when twisted. Connect the cable to the spedo directly to the speedometer output of the trans governor. It will fit. This way you have a speedometer.

I recently experience two problems related. On one, a stiff cable to the Cruise control caused the stripping of the speedometer gear. On the second experience on a friend's coach he lost the governor gear. The failure, probably caused by the cruise control, resulted in the governor drive gear shearing off at the roll pin. Net result had to have Manny's Trans remove the final drive to remove the broken gear.
Aside, I believe one can drive in second by moving the selector to super if the governor gear is lost. A little help.

Also, won't a vacuum modulator valve failure, or bad vacuum line to that valve, cause the transmission to delay up-shifting until very high engine rpm is reached? Just asking.
