I certainly get a lot of information from the forum. Thanks to all. I am also a bit of a McGiver and do not often ask for help. My Shrink says I should work on that, so here it is. I won the steering control damper at DuQuoin. I have stared at it for over a half year now. The original damper in my 403 77 Palm Beach is toast. Dave Lenzi is out of town. Thanks Dave for donating the part. I know one end mounts to the tie rod, probably the smaller end, to allow for clearance to the final drive housing. The only place I see attaching the other end is a hole in the bracket that is part of the front right lower control arm bushing bracket. Does anyone out there have one of these and thoughts about where to mount the right end. The box I won only contained the angle and u bolts for the tie rod. Thanks, Michael Schultz

When you figure that out, I have one that I'll sell for $150 less than Lenzi
sells them for. I bought it from Dave and never had the opportunity to
install it. It is the ultimate in steering damping and blowout/flat
control. All attachments are hand machined and Dave is quite explicit on
installation.

Maybe an answer to your question is in order. The "body" end of the stabilizer attaches to a welded bracket on the front of the crossmember approximately on vehicle centerline. That bolt is vertical. The shaft end of the damper attaches to a bracket on the drivers side that is bolted to the relay rod. That bolt is also vertical.

Sorry for all the confusion, but what I have is much longer then the OEM and quite a bit fatter. I think I will have to build some new brackets. The bracket that came with it is angled the wrong direction and I will have to custom make a bracket to attach to the lower a arm right wheel support. Looks like cutting and welding tomorrow. It will be interesting to hear what Dave has to say about all this. I will have it done tomorrow, cause it is time to go camping!

Nope! I have two vehicle restorations in progress and am in the process of
getting another year older. I do not need another project. I am slowly but
steadily rounding up all my GMC parts and getting rid of them.
But you knew this, didn't you Gene?

Went camping this weekend and the new stablizer is working great. I believe this item was a precursor to what Dave Lenzi now has engineered. Anyway, I have fabricated new brachets on both ends out of 1/4 inch angle and flat stock. The big end brachet is attached to the front cross bar and the finger holding the lower wheel attachment(a arm sort of. The small end is attached to the tie rod with anlge iron and u-bolts, adjustable. Clearances to the final drive housing and cross member are good in all steering positions. Since I was not present at Duquoin, only my ticket was, I am curious where it came from. Maybe Dave will have the answer. At least this thread created a sale of parts amongst the community. Carry on!

More research, this grey steering control damper is a safe T Plus and the box was packed in 2003. No wonder some of the parts were missing and little is known about it.
