Assuming I get the GMC all ready to go, my son is going to be in a bike race in Crested Butte from June 23rd-26th. Is there anyone here in that area that can point us to a good location for camping?
I have never been there and don't know which campgrounds would be closest to the mountain, so any help would be appreciated!

There are 8 nearby campgrounds, including a KOA. You should have no trouble
finding one, just chosing one.

"Nearby" is a bit concerning in this part of the country. Gunnison (and most RV locations) is about 45 minute drive from Crested Butte (the Butte). The closest RV park is the Taylor Park Trading Post in Almont, and still a bit of distance to the Butte.
There are Forest Service campgrounds closer to the Butte, Lake Irwin comes to mind, no hookups and be advised that for big bike weekends, the campgrounds tend to fill up quickly. Also, most if not all are on (or off of) dirt Forest Service roads that have various levels of moderate maintenance.
Be aware that if you are coming to Colorado from the east there is a significant pass to summit (Monarch), fun to drive in a sports car..different challenge in a RV.
I have some url links for the area if you wish to email me.

Monarch Pass is not one to miss, no matter what you are driving. After
GMCWS Pueblo, we followed a GMC towing a model A Ford all the way to NV. He
had no problems that I could see.
