My door does not close tight even with a new seal. Is there a way to adjust the catch?

Does the curvature of the door match the curvature of the coach? If not, it
is difficult to get the door to fit. The factory manual describes a
proceedure for recurving the door that involves 2 x 4s and a come along and
brute force. I have not personally attempted this but several others have
with some success. The hinges can be adjusted several ways, the nut plates
that the bolts screw into allows for some movement. If that is not enough,
the hinges can be bent as well. I believe that the strike pin is also
adjustable.

Jim,

Have you seen Dan Winchester's way of re-curving the door?

Hi Rick,

If it's a small gap, you might be able to 'tweek' the door as mentioned by Jim.

Seems one of the main issues with the GM is known as 'Middle age spread'.

There's a bit of a read here:

http://www.palmbeachgmc.com/middle_age.html

Sadly some of the links are dead although their authors are certainly alive and well and on this site. Perhaps also search the forum for i.e. 'spread' and see what else turns up.

Cure the problem - not the symptom! Wink

HTH!

By using Dan Winchester's recurve procedure, and replacing the striker
(designed by Bill Bramlett, now manufactured by Bert & Faye Curtis, &
sold by JimK, etc), you can make the door close like a new Cadillac's.

My door does not close tight even with a new seal. Is there a way to adjust the catch?

I have Bill Bamlett's pin, number one made by bert Curtis. I could not slam my door har enough before. Now, just a touch and it closes and locks like the Cadillac Ken speaks of. I did not recurve the door or pull the bulge out of the body.
Jim K. sells the pin for the Curtis.
