I can see using the heck out of a microwave, and using a cooktop very
often. But the oven? What do they actually get used for in reality? I
don't see baking cookies or cakes. or a turkey or cornbread or baked
potatoes (although THAT might be awesome on a camping trip... but they
take a long time to bake).

Nothing like fresh baked blueberry muffins, the smell of coffee simmering and bacon sizzling.
I take my oven over a microwave any day. Course we boondock with the Excella in the middle of nowhere and it all smells good...now since the GMC will be an overnighter boating vehicle and golf machine...maybe a microwave would be all I needed. No, i don't think I'd part with the oven.
Depends on what you use your motorhome for.

that is a good option...my micro/convec doesn't cook any faster, just more evenly for cookies/baked goods....Broiling takes a long time in our convec portion of the micro...I have a dacor. I don't usually use the broiler in the oven except to brown garlic bread, etc. when camping. I might add we don't have a generator in the Airstream either, hence the use of the oven. Haven't camped with a generator yet.
Good suggestion on the reservations. What a plan!

Peg,
Helen said "I have never baked and will never bake anything!" So I removed
the cooktop / oven from Double Trouble. I found that the cooktop was a
separate unit and could separate it from the oven which I did. I had to
block off the gas supply in the manifold.
We decided on a Sharp R-820 Microwave / Convection Oven / Grill and I
installed it directly under the cooktop.
We've used it last year and are very happy with its performance. I did note
that microwaving things on the flat rotating table took longer than if you
put them on the grill which sits about 1 1/2 inches higher.

Rob M.

I'm keeping ours. When our oven in the house quit, Carol wondered if the oven in the coach worked. It looked like it had rarely been used, so I hooked up a small grill bottle to it & lit the pilots. Turned the oven on & it started right up. Carol took the meat loaf out there & it cooked it just fine. I have been informed that the oven in the coach is a keeper. The Boss has spoken! Nuff said...

Consider when you are booning, you probably wont be using the micro wave, ok so you will grill a lot, that will work. But breads, some dinners need the oven. Thats not to say you cannot get along without an oven but even the chefs will cook with an oven because of the great taste.. you have to be into great taste

You think a lot like we do. We considered removing the oven and installing a cooktop. We removed the dinette and installed a 60" cabinet in its place, so we now have enough counter space. Eventually left the stove/oven in place cause we could not find a cabinet door to replace the oven, and the cost to have one made was prohibitive. Have been asked, "where do you eat?" answer: on the picnic table outside. Asked," what if its raining? Answer: We have an awning. Asked, "what if it rains real hard?" Answer; We go home! Welcome to the forum and look forward to the fun you will have restoring your coach.

It is a very personal preference. For myself, I would not have an RV without a conventional oven. I like to bake things when out camping, seem to have more free time then than at home.

Sir: You might have to put your hubs in the freezer and the bearings in the oven if you was stuck somewhere.

Chuck,
Don't you mean hubs in the oven and bearings in the freezer? Seems like I would want the hubs to be bigger and the bearings and seal to be smaller.
