To All -

I've been thinking about experimenting with a process to reverse the
fogging. A buddy of mine owns a classic and antique restoration business and he
said it is getting harder and harder to get glass for cars. Wouldn't it be
great if you could send your glass out and it comes back looking new? Is
there money in it? I would love to hear the input from the forum.

Best regards,

Shipping 2 ways on a windshield plus whatever the "fix" costs... as
opposed to buying new and shipping one way? I guess if there were no
alternative it might make sense, if such a reversal were possible.

What is the process that causes the fogging, anyway? There may be a
way to undo it.

The windshield is actually 2 separate pieces of glass with a plastic
material sandwiched in the middle. It is the plastic that reacts to UV light
in the sunlight that causes the fogging. There is currently no way to
reverse the ageing process. I am afraid that the windshield has a finite
life, and we are seeing the end of it. Replacement with new glass is
currently the only solution.

I replaced mine when they were 25 years old due to fogging. My new ones are now 10 years old and show no hint of fogging. I believe this is because the installer (a friend of mine who has been in the glass business for almost 30 years) sealed them in the rubber tracks when he installed them. He has done many, many GMCs over the years and I have never heard of one coming back for fogging.

Also I do not park my GMC out in the sun when it is not used. That might also make a difference in the rate of fogging.

My glass guy tells me its from moisture penetrating through the edge of the glass.
