Hello all,
Just thought I’d jump in right off and introduce myself (and the ‘little
lady’). And maybe pick some brains while we’re at it.
We’re Carl Hockett & Sharon Reese (yes, married, but using own names). We
live in Santa Rosa, Calif.
I’ve been lurking in the background of the world of the Classic GMC
Motorhomes for a couple years now. Watching on eBay and trolling the
internet. As I got closer to (an early) retirement (read: working on a
minimalist income, not the reputed fat-cat Calif. State Worker retirement…
HA!!! I don’t know any of that kind! Oh, yes. I’m a retired Calif. State
worker. Was with the Dept. of Social Services, in Child Care Licensing.
Former analyst, then supervisor/manager, then quality review analyst.
Ultimately got too fried trying to do the impossible with fewer and fewer
resources. Led to serious burnout; now retired).
So, I’ve been developing a lust for owning one of these babies and we’ve
been getting more serious, to the point of ALMOST having bought one a couple
times. Got my eye on a few now. We’d really appreciate The List’s
aid/help/encouragement in finding “The Right One” for us.
Since there's a tight size-limit to posts here, all I could figure to do is
send this introduction first, and then my list of discussion/questions
separate,
following. I hope this works and is okay. I couldn't see any way to cut
the
size down any other way and get both out.
We’ll appreciate any and all input, suggestions, leads, etc. that the List
members may have to throw at us. If you want to point me to your archives
for the answers that have already been beaten to death, I understand, just
tell me how to access your archives and find the subject.
Yours,

Carl, You might want to attend a GMC Rally to meet a few folks and look at
the variety of coaches around. I think the next one in California is going
to be in Lone Pine (Boulder Creek RV Park). the weekend of June 10. You
might get a motel in Lone Pine and hang out for a couple of days. We have
some group dinners which you could attend for a nominal charge. Here is the
application form link but you should call Arlene for dinner details. We
always make a big deal about it when potential GMCers attend rallies as
guests. Be prepared for a very warm welcome.
http://www.gmcpc.org/docs2011/LonePine.pdf
Attending a rally is a good way of exploring coach options as well as
finding a coach to buy. Sometimes coaches at rallies are for sale but most
times GMC people know where the good ones are. You will also get a ton of
information about what to look for in a good coach.
Thanks

there are coaches in the area.

Hi Shannon & Carl, Welcome to our world. Maybe one of your firsts should be to drive down to Fremont CA and meet Jim Kanamota. He's at 47626 Kato Rd there. He has some coaches for sale, but more important is one of the "GO-TO" guys for us GMCer's on the Left Coast. 1 800 752-7502 is the phone and he is usually there, but a phone call would be appropriate. Then go to www.gmcmi.com and join that group for about $35.00 and get the best parts catalog in the world, just for us, plus info on rallys, etc. If you go to Lone Pine, stop by CC on 395 and see us, 702 882-7307. You'll get much more info online here as others chip in. Good luck.

George, I wouldn't welcome Shannon and Carl to our "world", rather to our
"alternate universe" where your "perceptions can become realities":)

G'day,
Welcome to the zoo!
Here's a link to the epicenter of all GMC knowledge.
http://www.bdub.net/
From here you can find just about ANYTHING relating to GMC's.
Familiarize yourself with what's there and finding info on the GMC is pretty
easy.

Welcome! You've already found the best site for GMC info, I couldn't do anything without these folks.
As you're on the left coast, you absolutely should stop by and see JimK @ Applied GMC. He and Jim Bounds in Orlando, FL seem to know and have about anything that you could use or need for a GMC motorhome. It always bothers me that we don't have a facility in the midwest that provides that amount of support to the GMC community.
You should be able to find a nice coach as prices are depressed with the high gas prices right now. Enjoy your search in good health!

Welcome to GMC.
You should maybe attend a rally to get a better "insight"? I am fairly new (7 month ) to this "cult", but I am having a wonderful time. I have just returned from the rally in King City,CA and loved it. Met neat people and saw some outstanding coaches. The next rally of the 49er chapter is just south of San Jose.
http://gmc49ers.blogspot.com/2011/04/gmc-49ers-white-elephant-and-more-rally.html
You can get a feel for the great camaraderie and fun we like to have. I am sure you will be invited to see many of the coaches attending and you will get some great info. Maybe even a lead to a coach for sale.
Feel free to contact me in San Leandro and you can visit.
