Just curious, what is the lowest ratio available for our final drives?

My PO has it in his records that in Nov 1993 he installed a 3:21 and then in
July 94 he installed a 3:46.

I believe there is also a 4.10, but those are really low gears.

My 245/75R16 tiles change my 3:46 ratio to an approx 3:23. With a 4:11 I
would end up at approx 3:82.

I'm just thinking ahead in case I ever want to tow a vehicle.

shouldn't your list be updates to include Jim K's 3.50, 3.8 and 4.10

Ray,
If you have the 3.46 in there now, you are in the ball park.
Yes we sell 3.55/3.70/4.10 units, but unless your a slow driver or
pulling 4,000lbs, there is no need to change.
I know the people that have the 403engines have great experience with
the 3.70,but the gain will not be worth the investment.
We are in the business to sell, but I prefer not to sell you something
that will not show improvement.

Thanks Jim, your honesty is one of the many items that makes you such an asset
to this group.

My concern was having a 3:46 with the 245/75R16 tires which actually changes my
3:46 to a 3:23 (approx). I would only consider changing if I were to tow a
car. Towing the trailer with the Harley in it has not been a problem.

Thanks

Ray

Forgot, tire size does enter in the decision.
The standard tires are what were use to .

...say what you will Jim, I can only say that with my 403, your 3:70's have made a BIG improvement in my Rocky Mountain climbing
here in British Columbia. Perhaps 3:42's work well with a 455,
but not a 403 in "the mountains".

My opinion, for what it's worth.

Dan,
You are one of 1,000 that has told me of the gain.
I know Miguil at MGM GMC is always telling people that it is the best ratio.
We fall back on over 2,000 units running.
Currenty, we sell considerably more 3.70 than the 3.55.
We have the best warrenty program that cover labor, freight and parts
no charge for 5 years and no limit on milage.

Jim,

I really like the 3.70 limited slip I got from you. Since I installed it in January, I have put just over 1,000 miles on it and changed the gear oil (while it was hot) after our last trip. Big improvement in drivability. It is one of the best improvements I have made on the coach to date. I'm still saving for the disc brakes and reaction arm, but I'll be ordering that system one of these days.

On this topic...I live and travel in Florida...flat land! I have the original 3:07. I would like to pull a small trailer in the future. What is your recommendation. 77 with 403. Thanks.

I am supposed to have a 355 but am pretty sure they put a 370 in it. I have 245 75 16 tires. At 65-68 mph I turn 3 grand on the tach. Think I need to swap it to someone for something less. I really dont need the climbing power that we have. If I ever get the cover off I will count the teeth. I like to drive faster than 60-65 sometime.

Dan, I think you have a 3:55. Those are the same numbers as I get 68 mph @
3,000 and Jim put a 3:55 in my coach.

Ok, thank you Gary. You are first one I can find to confirm this. Just few folks running a tach with lower gears. While I don't use the tach nearly as much as I do the vacuum gauge I sure like having it in there.
