Yes Mike....the Eleganza SE
|
Wasn't the Eleganza SE a late 1974 model? If I understand it correctly, a for-runner, a bit more than a prototype, for the 1975 model year changes.
The seller has two GMC's on eBay. One is this repainted 1973, the other is a 1975 Eleganza II. I suspect he doesn't know what the '73 truly is and it "kinda LOOKS" like the other one....

He doesn't have two GMCs.
He has FOUR.
Whatever that 73 is, that 75 Eleganza II, a 78 Palm Beach, and some
sort of Royale with a rear bath. It's all for sale.
Him: *describe describe describe*
Me: "..."
Him: *describe describe*
Me: "Um, would it be okay if I drive up on Sunday? I can bring my
camera and if you really want to sell all of these, I think I can put
you in touch with your potential customers... but HOW ON EARTH did you
come to have FOUR of these???"
He explained that he'd bought out a building or interest or something
from a defunct transmission shop, and they were inside the building.
Supposedly they all crank and roll, other than the one with no carb
(also missing the governor for the transmission but I don't know what
that means).
Its like One Eyed WIllie's treasure. :)
I plan on driving up on Sunday and shooting some pictures and seeing
if I can buy any of them. :)

Three of these were on Craigslist earlier this year and I posted a link to the listing. It has since expired. I suspect they belonged to Danny Dunn -- Dunn's transmission of Memphis. The assets were sold a couple of years ago ( I did not know about the disposition at the time. )
Anyway, they are located about 130 miles from Memphis -- not quite close enough for me to offer to help much but happy to try if someone develops an interest.

rivable. Hope this is not a goonie-mobile.

Looking at the cabinets in the '73, I suspect it WAS a Sequoia. (A light shade only used in that model.) <http://www.bdub.net/publications/1973%20GMC%20Motorhome/1973_GMC14.htm> Looks like most of the green has been removed. (I can see why.)
The governor is a bolt on item that is part of the transmission. It lives under the driver's side exhaust manifold. (I have a spare one on the transmission in the corner of the garage.)
You could pick up all five (Four plus the Palm Beach) and select the best parts to build one nice one... them sell off the rest. You might end up with a coach for free!
It would require a place to store them... so maybe not.
Yes, it is like One Eyed Willie's treasure... I hope it isn't booby trapped like all pirate treasure is reported to be!

These are probably the coaches that belonged to Danny Dunn who owned the Dunn
Transmission shop in Columbus, MS about 25 miles from Aberdeen. Danny passed
away about a year and a half ago and I noticed the shop closed shortly after
that. I never saw his coaches but I knew he had three or four in a warehouse.
He rebuilt my transmission and final drive and they are still going great so I
would think these coaches would be mechanically sound unless some were for
parts.

Oh, I've got enough law-fu to get a title. I'm just trying to make
sure that they're owned by the guy purporting to sell them. It
probably comes down to the circumstances in which the previous owners
"lost" them (mechanic's liens, storage costs, lock stock and barrel
auction, etc). I'll know more later.
You would be surprised how often people mistakently try to sell what
they don't actually own. Oil and Gas interests are especially bad
about this. :)
