Oooh I can roughly answer that!

Mid 77. David G. can probably give you the serial number starting at point if it's not 'out there' already.

Miguel exrols the virtues of the 403. He says it's a more robust engine

If your running a stock final drive, it might struggle up to Manny's.
Those with a 3.70 has no problem unless there are other short comings .

Seems a little late for a factory 455.

But as I understand it:

The cut off wasn't "quite" as cut and dry as that. Some dealers had pull enough to get 455 installed after the cut-off. Other dealers would install a 455 if the customer requested. (And paid for it.)

I would have thought a build date that late in the year would make the coach a 1978 model.

John, what is the TZE sequence number on that?
More than 1287? meaning yours is one of those special orders.

Or changed at a later date... (it could happen.)

The reason for the confusion with regards to registration on the 77 Royale
is that they were constructed as a Transmode chassis, and then shipped to
the upfitter, in this case Coachman industries, for final interior
construction. Many of the transmodes were made earlier in the year, and sat
around at the Pontiac plant as well as Coachman before they were finished.
My 78 Royale was made in Feb 78, and not sold to it's first owner which was
a Honda dealership in Michigan until May of 78. Just what happened on my
coach, your situation may vary.
