Was talking to Miguel at MGM about replacing my crank up roof antenna with crank up dish for satellite service.
His reply/suggestion was to take off the crank up antenna/dish and patch the hole as you can now have satellite service via your computer or ipod or cell phone without the need of a dish or antenna. Sounds like the way to go to me if you already have satellite service. Also you can check the local weather on computer with ease.

Keep that dish handy for direct tv or dish if your like
me and don't live near a large city. Also consider these cell phones get real hot under constant usage such as watching a couple movies in a row.

I agree...
My Cell could hook up to the computer and would get hot enough to damage the battery. Someone I knew had a similar phone, his got so hot the antenna disattached.
If I remember, the service was slow, you always felt like you were dragging your feet.
If you have a good out of the way place for the DirecTV antenna for storage, why not have that? It has coverage everywhere you go, with exception of Alaska which I think is on the fringe.
EVen Verizon has holes in its coverage and some companies only cover areas around large cities and open areas have none. you have to be careful even when looking at just phone coverage.
I like to think I attempt to keep up with the technologies but I don't see tv on a cell phone receiver, at least not yet.

Being rural, I've been on this gizmo...

...for a few months after nothing but nightmares with its predecessor. It's phenominal. Plenty fast, plug it in to a wall and go. No antenna, no wires, nothing. Brilliant technology and I understand once the 4G stuff becomes more prominent, it'll only get better. Limited bandwidth so I won't be watching films and such but for the internet, email or the occasional news clip - wonderful. I've previously had dial-up, one way satellite, two way satellite and microwave (canopy system) - no comparison. I give it an easy 5 stars. Be patient and I'm sure in time all internet connections will be as simple, reliable and as powerful as any wired setup and the bandwidth to handle films will become affordable. There's certainly no issue with speed at all.

One other thing to remember is that (with VERY rare exceptions), so-called unlimited data plans DO have limits, just high limits. Video files (even compressed files) are HUGE and you will find out real fast how big your "unlimited" data cap is. Also, most carriers are looking very closely at folks that tether to their smart phones to get connectivity. They will see the tethering activity and you may find yourself suddenly having an extra charge for tethering on your cell phone bill.
