I have a '76 Royale. The rear dinette seat sits over the propane tank making me wonder if the original dinette folded flat into a bed.
Did the original Royale come with a dinette set that folded flat into a bed?
If so, does anyone know of a source for the mechanism? The previous owner removed the mechanism (if there was one) and put a hard bench in place instead. I would like to turn that back into a sleeping option.

All the Coachman Royale/Birchavens I have seen, (in stock condition) had a metal framed dinette. I do not know who made it. They have a release lever on the side under a padded side piece. While I have seen Coachman's with wooden dinettes, I think most where changed by owners though the years.
For your info:
-- The Coachman dinette is a little wider than the Flexsteel made dinette in the later GM models and the about the same width as most wooden dinettes. I think the metal GM dinette is easiest to use. We find Wood framed dinettes the hardest to put up and take down. They normally use the table as part of the bed. Metal framed dinettes do not use the table as part of the bed configuration... allowing the use of the tables with folding side leaves.
-- While the metal dinettes are better for sitting, I find the wood and foam based dinettes (like early GM and others) more comfortable for sleeping.
-- What is best for you use is up to you. For example: My wife doesn't like riding in the cockpit passenger seat and normally rides in the dinette... so we need a metal framed dinette.

Thanks,
Right now, I'd be interested in either. Since we will have someone riding in the dinette occassionally, I guess we should be looking to locate a metal frame.
