Just got back last night from out 1,624 mile trip to the Cascader's Rally at
Lake Mayfield Resort in Washington. Rain, sleet, or snow could not stop the
GMC. My wife and I had a great trip. Took our time coming back and did
some site seeing. I just wanted to report we had no problems. Too often we
hear of negative reports and I don't think we hear often enough about the
great times we have traveling in our GMCs.
Thanks to all the Cascader members who made us feel right at home for our
first Cascader's Rally. My wife and I are looking forward to when we can
head up north and do it again.
Special thanks to Rod Price, Bill Guise and their wifes who did a great job
co-hosting the Rally!

Gary,
Nice trip report. You're right, it seems like we hear too much about problems with these coaches. I too was at a weekend rally, Saguaro Jetset, in Bisbee AZ. and, although we did not experience rain, sleet, or snow, we DID have a lot of wind and night time temps in the 30s.
It was a short trip for us, only about 100 miles each way but, as usual, the ol' GMC didn't miss a beat. During this trip, the odometer turned over 76,000 miles. When we bought the coach two years and nine months ago, it had just over 66,000 miles on it. The longest trips we have taken in it have been about 1,600 - 1,800 miles, with lots of 100 - 500 mile trips in between. The only time the coach has ever coasted to the side of the road was when an ignition module burned out on the way to another Jetset rally last year. An easy 15 minute fix, since I carry a spare.
I attribute this to doing a lot of preventive maintenance in my driveway, more than anything else. That is the key to enjoying these machines. Fortunately, I enjoy working on it, and making improvements, almost as much as I enjoy driving it and "camping" in it. So, to all the relative newbies out there (like us) don't let all the problems you read about keep you from using your coaches at every opportunity.

Gary, I was glad when I had the lunch hour between my presentation and
yours." Idiot's Guide to owning a GMC" is a great piece of work and the DVD
was a great touch as well. You are a great addition to the GMC community and
consider this an invitation to present a topic of yours at a GMCWS rally in
the future. Yes, we did get snowed on, rained on, sleeted on, froze, and one
of the great spring days the pacific northwest is famous for, all in the
space of 4 days. Good to hear that you got home in good shape. We in the
Cascaders know how to have a good time, and we use our coaches year round.
This rally was different as we had non member coaches offered for sale,
visitors welcome and a large amount of new & used GMC stuff. I saw a lot of
$$ changing hands there, even some of mine. Kinda what this GMC community is
all about. Great to have you as a new member.

Not to bitch about rally pictures but when you load full-size
~8-megapixel images it takes forever to load on the screen. I started looking at the page and gave up after two pictures.

I tend to read a lot of stuff, not just GMC but other things that tend to be interesting. Some of it I retain in the back of my head in case an idea pops up.....
The pictures and time to create an image seems forever unless on a computer but a computer screen does not work well for a convention environment.
What I had read was a fellow had a computer screen, the LCD type, and he removed the LCD/light source, then separated the light source from the LCD screen. Put the LCD in a protective glass enclosure, basically two pieces of glass taped or glued to gether over the LCD screen.
The LCD screen gets placed over an overhead projector, the type that you would place those transparencies over and shine the pic on the wall or screen, run the computer ( or TV if capable ) and show your picture/slide presentation....
I believe they left a slight gap between the projector glass and the LCD screen and used a small fan to blow air to keep the LCD cool as heat will affect the operation of the LCDs.
It was an interesting idea and very workable for these kind of displays..
for at home on the cpu, the pics can be make smaller in size and use the enlarge buttons...
