There may be new info forthcoming to raise doubts about synthetics.

On the 2008 Caddy CTS, the on-board computer advises me of remaining
engine oil life as a % . As a result, I just had my 2nd oil change at 22k
miles. A few weeks ago I received a recall notice that GM is having
problems with premature timing chain wear and subsequent failure as a
result of extended oil change intervals.

When I bring the car in they will re calibrate the engine control module,
including the oil life monitor which will result in more frequent oil
changes.

A couple of days ago Cadillac sent me a card that entitles me to the next
4 service visits (expires in 1 year) gratis.

If Cadillac has concerns I have to wonder about the other claims used to
justify higher costs for synthetics.

Dave,
Think twice about the factory recommended oil change intervals. My
conscience just wouldn't let me run the oil in my new truck until Blondstar
sent me the reminder. I dumped the oil at 3,000 miles and sent a specimen
to Blackstone Labs. They advised me that it was good that I didn't run the
oil any longer than I did. I did not like what they found, neither did
they.
