Guys, over the years I have had to let a lot roll off my back, and hopefully
I will live to haunt you for a few more. I enjoy the groug and like Jim K
says I would be glad to share a room or a bunk in the GMC, but no sleeping
together.
I am still waiting for some one to explain how I can respond or reply from
the digest without starting a new email.
Thanks to those that responded, now I feel bad about missing the rallys.
But wifes health/Dr visits are more inportant and things are working out
good, hoping that this is her last six months of work, as she could retired
five years ago, but did not want to spend 24/7 talking GMC.
I have had fun, and hope to see you at Bean Station.
Just Don

First, I do not want anything I say to cause you to stop participating. The only thing I want is to make discussions easier to follow. I'd rather it be a bit confusing rather than reduced.
The different ways of accessing the forum and how the different access methods are handled by some of the other methods add their own confusion to the mix. (Have you ever noticed that some email programs will connect two threads, months or years apart, just because the subject is the same?)
Anyway:
The digest isn't really for 'active' posters. It is best for 'lurkers' and people with intermittent or slow connections. Technology is making the connections 'better' so that reason isn't as much as an issue as it once was.
Bottom line: There isn't an easy way to reply with the digest.
If you are an active poster (and you currently seem to be) you should access the forum with the full email list or the web based forum. That way you can post replies directly to the discussion you are referencing.
If you want to 'lurk' and reply only now and then, I would read the digest and reply with the web based forum. If you STILL want to use the forum and reply by email, do everyone a favour and quote SOME of the message you are replying to. (The subject alone isn't always enough to hook the discussions together...) We'll figure it out.
Keep posting!

sure there is quoting on the forum.
Hardie Johnson wrote on Thu, 07 April 2011 21:06 | Mike,
+1 on everything you said. This should be the SOP for posting. On forums, there is no quoting, thus no top or bottom posting and it's all one long string.

NO NO Neveer stop participating because of a disagreement, you are proabably right!

The digest has always been for active posters and it started out this way. Lurkers are a plus for us as they become active at some point.
Bottom line: There isn't an easy way to reply with the digest.
The easiest way to replay is by email, however the email responses cause multiple strings of the same topic on the GMCnet. It causes the most confusion because of all the multiple SAME topics, of which are the same but all separate. I understood the best way to try to keep up the archive was to SEARCH OUT THE TOPIC and to respond ON THAT TOPIC. I have done this and it workds, but you CAN'T DO THAT ON EMAIL........THE EASIEST WAY to KEEP THE TOPICS TOGETHER is to go to the GMCnet and post ONLINE. THIS MEANS YOU ARE AN ACTIVE USER.
If you are an active poster (and you currently seem to be) you should access the forum with the full email list or the web based forum. That way you can post replies directly to the discussion you are referencing. SEE ABOVE
Quoting the TOPIC would normally link all information to the proper string, it DOES THIS ONLINE on THE DIGEST but if you use EMAIL, it does not matter what you do, IT WILL BREAK UP THE TOPIC and cause MULTIPLE LISTINGS with the SAME TOPIC HEADER. I don't understand why there is a discussion about this, this is how the computer cyphers the information. SIMPLE AND TO THE POINT< ONLY ON LINE CORRESPONDENCE WILL KEEP THE TOPICS TOGETHER< EMAIL BREAKS THEM UP.

I've tried the Phorum and still prefer the email version of GMCNet. But for
the past year or two I've been using GMail for all of my email traffic. For
me, it offers the best of both worlds: I can, if I choose, run an off-line
version to download masses of messages for later consumption. What I
usually do though, is read and post on-line, much as one might on the
Phorum. But GMail's threading on SUBJECT works MUCH better. I've never had
any problem following Don's, nor anyone else's messages, as long as the
subject's correct. The instant search capability inherent in anything
Google just makes GMail that much more convenient to use.
And, no, I don't have SPAM problems. GMail's filtering is very good, and
the ease of adding my own custom filters makes it even better.
All of my email accounts are now routed to the GMail client.

Oh, I did not mean that it was not possible, Don. I meant that most responders do not bother, since the post you are following is right there on screen. Preview is nice, too.

ALSO, I think Hardie was talking about most _OTHER_ on-line forums... the ones with only one way to access, and no email lists or digests. Over-all much simpler. (And no problem with posting pictures right in the messages.)
We can discuss how civil the people are on these _OTHER_ forums later...
