While the video is old, I have never seen it:

<http://www.katu.com/home/video/4641736.html?video=pop&t=a>

I still think the would have been better off flipping the wing over.

OBTW:

I found this link on a Craigslist page selling a '1972' GMC motorhome: <http://bend.craigslist.org/rvs/2252333168.html>

Hi Mike,
It's a good vid - thanks!

Curious there's no mention of further attempts to improve or better the mark by themselves or by others. I'm still up for it - I bet tossing the wing all together would have gotten it to 105++ !

I'd also agree that the wing was not a good idea. I don't think they have been doing anything to the motorhome (if they are still there) since that record.

Nevertheless, it's quite a feat to get something that big to reach 100mph! Gotta give them their due rewards.

I do not believe they are in business anymore.
Also, I do believe that JimB had something to do with this.

Going off of what my memory, and I may be wrong...

1. This video was after their first year (like I said the vid was old.) They went back the next year, I have been told they had a supercharger on the motor (454) and bumped the record to 105.

2. They tried to make money/advertising by taking the "Worlds Fastest Motorhome" to Car and RV shows. Must not have worked out.

3. The motorhome was sold (without the blower and maybe a different motor) on ebay.

4. I do not think they are in business any more... at least not supporting the GMC motorhome... same thing in my book! Twisted Evil

5. I understand something happened that left a bad taste in Jim B's mouth.... I do not know specifics.

Keep in mind... I might not have it correct. Rolling Eyes

105 is nothing. You ought to follow Kim K. to a rally sometime.

Ken B,
I am going to drive 60mph to Luisiana to save gas.
It is an Ornamental thing to push all the way on gas or brake. Maybe a
cruse control will be the fix. Everytime I snag one and lay it in my
coach, we run out and they sell it.

They bettered the record the second time out with the supercharged 454. The
engine grenaded some distance from end of the return run but they were able
to coast through with the better MPH. The coach sold with a normally
aspirated 454 in it.

JimK touches on a good point, with $4+ a gallon gas one might wanna, and being the speed addict that I am I never thought I would say this, drive a touch slower! I think hell just froze over since I just said that. Anyhow a personal experience last weekend proved it. I normally cruise at about 80mph in my mustang on long open road trips, and I usually get 19.5-20 mpg in my 1990 5 Liter. Well running a little slower netted me almost a 25% gain in milege. Over 305 miles for the first leg of my trip I got 23.8 mpg at 75 mph, and on the second I averaged 25.5 mpg at 70! For an average of 24.4 over the entire trip. It seems 70 mph is the sweet spot for cars with overdrive trans missions. So I would guess the sweet spot for our Coaches is between 55-65 mph depending on gearing...

David,

I did not have anything to do with they demise, they needed no help with that.
I have no love loss there, I was involved with the LSR coach in helping retrieve
it down in the Keys and get it Squim until they did not pay for parts I put in
the coach-- that ended my involvement.  I also feel good about fueling the
creative idea of going for the record.  I do love exposing our classic machine
to extreme venues showing how unique the GMC is and how it can be reinvented for
use today.  It's a huge feather in our hat that the GMC holds the motorhome LSR
record also  the coach holds the 1/4 drag race speed record at 21.88.  This
record was set last month here in Orlando at a Sunshine Statesmen rally.  Many
things we all can be proud of and we should also use this as proof how unique
our machines are.

Dyno Sources idea was a good one but their execution was flawed-- there should
though be credit given for the foreword thought,

Jim Bounds
