I like some of the fittings that are made for "construction only." while I wouldn't build a "carport" big enough for the GMC out of them, you could build a set-up for GMC storage.
A PVC rafter/ridge pole to setting on top of a couch would give a tarp enough shape to shead water... and maybe snow.

I always shopped for fittings and parts that were applicable to use on the GMC at marine supply houses.
Since I lived close to the Gulf of Mexico(I have since moved), there were plenty of boat supply shops that stocked a great deal of parts that could be used when you worked on your coach. Items such as wire, connectors, gauges, holding tank sensors, fans, cooktops, small microwave ovens and many other items that I considered fairly "bulletproof" for an application on a GMC.
I know that in some instances, just because it's labeled "Marine Grade" you'll pay more for it and I'm sure I did, but none of these "upgrades" I did back then (14 years ago) have failed. No general conclusion except that "it's worked so far".
