This is not a personal attack, just an observation of what happended
when I went to Topeka, KS to "Horizon motors" to look at a 76 Eleganza
GMC.

I noticed it while driving by that dealer a month ago, and wanted to
see it, as I am actevely looking to darken my driveway with a GMC
motorhome. I got time off from work in advance, and drive to the
dealer in Topeka. When I got there, I saw no salesmen out side or
anything. I did look at the GMC though.

It was trashed, had carpet pasted on the walls. Rust covered the
rotors. The dash had wires hanging from it. I thought it was a
project, although to its credit, it had new "pep boys" (READ CHEAP)
tires on it. It was obvious this thing needed work and lots of it.

I finally saw a sales person in the building, and went in to see about
the GMC. Even though I am in my mid 40s I look twenty-something. I
work full time (Army stationed at Ft. RIley) and have money to buy a
RV.

Well he announced when I asked about it: "You cant afford this, boy."
I want 28,000 for this "collectors item."

He went on to add :"You dont know nothin about no GMC you dont know
what this is..." lol

And they wonder why people dont like to shop local for RVs.

Ill look else where to find that GMC, and when I do, his will still be
there, rusting away.

What a Shame.

Sammy,

The best way to buy a GMC is from someone here.

The guy you dealt with sounds like a typical used car salesman!

If you want to mess with this jackass check out some of the GMC's for sale
on the GMCMI website:

http://www.gmcmi.com/

Pick out a nice looking one and print out some pictures. Take them back to
him and show him the pictures and tell him he was right! You couldn't afford
his at $28 grand so you found "this one" for $XX,XXX (or less). Thank him
for his help in pointing that out and leave! ;-)

Rob M.

I'm sure if you are monitoring the GMCList you have seen the recent list posted here: www.gmcclassics.com/chatter/4sale.html. Good luck and you're right leave the basket case on the dealers lot.

I he can get $28K for it, do you think he'll take a few more on consignment? I would even give him 50% commission. $14k for any one of mine would be excellent! Twisted Evil

$28,000 for his " Collectors Item " which must be Big Dummy Language for "JUNK", then another $28,000 to tear down and restore back to actual Collectors item condition.

I met a " good ole boy " one time also, same response, only the price was different, I recall I smiled and walked away.

My buy story has a similar thread. I had been watching one on Craig's list for a couple of weeks. He started out at 10,000. Way out of my price range. I believe the words he used were, rare, collector's item, and even you'll never see one like this again. He would top post (a no-no in craigs list) every day. Finally his price started dropping, and I went to go see it. He claimed to be an RV dealer (but was selling this from his house), but knew nothing about it. I called the next day with an offer and he accepted, but said he was on his way out of town for a funeral and would call me when he got back.
Several days later it was re-listed. Price was back up. I called and his wife answered, said yup, we had a deal, but to bad. One thing he didn't know is I had done some research on him and the couch. Guy was in current litigation for breach of contract, and his dealer's license had been pulled. He was top posting daily, and getting flagged (craigs list way of saying you broke the rules and now your add is deleted). My digging into the seller had put him back on the radar for the city. They told me they were "investigating" him.
To make an already to long story short. My husband calls and we make another trip to see it, in a different car, just in case he might remember. He's now desperate to get rid of it. Has to go, now. I ended up getting it for less than my previous agreement.
Some days it just does not pay to be a greasy used car (RV) salesman!

Why give up so easily? people that blustery are rarely as confident as they apppear.

Is he the owner? Is this his money and space at stake?

Did you change the name to protect the stupid? I can't find Horizon Motors in topeka. I was going to call him.

Perhaps if several of us called him with specific questions that he probably does not know the answer to. It might be fun.

A local RV dealer here wanted $5000 for this coach , I politely explained to him that he was living in a pre-recession world and I got him down to $2500 in a single conversation.

Personally I agree with the dealer
No matter what the sales price that coach is going to cost way too much.

It would be cheaper and you'll get a better coach by not buying that one.

He clearly doesn't want to sell it. I think he knows it's a money sink and is just trying to protect the unwary. Either from a consignment seller or a boss that thinks the can get way too much money for the Classic GMC

Sounds like you spent some time on research to get that coach, Marsha. You must have really liked it.

Of course, it must be comforting to you to have won the price bid BELOW the original price he had made to you.

His wife sounds like one of those business "don't care what they sell as long as they sell it", people. I don't know how I would have responded to that snotty comment from her. I would expect that from a child, but some grown-ups are still mentally "young".

I hope the coach is all you are hoping for, you will have so much fun in the right coach.

Good luck and do keep us informed on how you are doing or if you need ideas.... there are a lot of them floating around out here.

After work ill find and post his dealers tel number. He is the owner from
what I remember. It's a small dealer. Why did I give up so easily? I have
access to the gmc list I can find a better coach for less here. Besides
arguing with people like him is a waste of my time. Grin lol Sammy Williams

I have had a car dealer refuse to sell me a car for my own good. It WAS a while ago, and he just didn't want to see a young (dumb) Marine get in over his head. (He was the owner of a couple of new car dealerships. Older guy..)

Years later, after watching others (who didn't have a good dealer) having cars they could not afford, I agreed with his actions. Wish I could have thanked him.

BUT...

I doubt this guy was in the same category.

Besides
arguing with people like him is a waste of my time. Grin lol Sammy Williams

LOL.... In my younger days, probably shortly after graduating HIGH SCHOOL, I was a sarcastic and argumentive person. I would have enjoyed taking this charactor on then.

Now days, I fight the urge for sarcasm and try not to be argumentive. Now, I would rather he sit there and eat his "collectors item" than try to talk him down.

Too many years of growing up and learning what life is really about made me change my ways and understand there are people like that out there.

Live, enjoy, have fun and don't let the small stuff impact your life.

Sammy,

There are two coaches here on the east coast that might be viable projects.

this one is at a dealer in Virginia beach He told me he'd take $2500

http://davesilva.com/eleganza/

and this one is $1200 in Maryland

http://davesilva.com/gmc3

In a previous thread we determined the road between here and Kansas is lined with Blacklist members.

I have a bit more info on both coaches

I would imagine he was more like my guy, out for the biggest buck he could get. No, I never felt sorry for him. I thought of the others he has taken advantage of in the past. If I could find them, I would give them the extra. After all sometimes what goes around, comes around.
