I used to forget to turn off the water pump switch in my bathroom so I replaced it with a $10 timer switch. I can set it for up to an hour but usually 5 minutes is more than long enough.

Why am I thinking about fixing a problem that I do not have? I like this timer that Bob has. I like having the two switches. Why am I even thinking about these mods? We leave our pump on all the time. Are we supposed to cut it off? I need to figure out why I am going to fix this. Shocked

I usually turn my pump off at night since it cycles occasionally even though I can't find any leak--I suspect the pump is leaking back internally. Since I already had a toggle switch in there, I always left it on at night and I'd be too lazy while half asleep to turn it off.

If you are concerned about forgetting about turning off the pump just
connect a wire from the right side center light switch to the pump.
You probably don't forget to shut off the lights when leaving the
bathroom. If you turn on either right side light the pump will be on.

George, I bought this off Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220743215489&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

It's designed as a 110V wall switch, but since the timer is mechanical, I just hooked the 12V to it. This also works very well for the electric hot water switch so that you don't accidentally leave it on if the water runs out or the next time you hook up and the tank is dry. It appears to be a nicely made unit.

As a force of habit from sailing, we always turn the potable pump off when underway. Everybody that does not has had a valve sneak open at least one and then the system pumps all your fresh water overboard.

Water pump off and reefer pinned are just two on the departure check list.

This is a short to a GMCMHMP 2000 article on converting and adding a switch in bath. The copy that I have with me is marginal but I will be home in about 10 days and I have a much clearer copy and can send to anyone interested then.

Bob, Your mind is a wonderful thing. I didn't know you didn't need 110 V to opperate the timer. Now what else can we use the timer for?

Lights, fans, anything you don't want to forget and leave on. Just make sure you get the switch where you have to crank the knob around to set the timer. Pushbutton ones will not work on 12VDC. They are also available in a 12hr version as well as the 60 minute style.

I was thinking about using a timer relay latch ckt so I can engage it from anywhere, but that will draw current for the relay even when the pump is off. Good Idea Bob. Does that timer make any noise as it us unwinding?

All the ones I have used click like a twist set kitchen timer. Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click-Click- well you get the idea. You will be aware it is timing down.
