No, there's no way you could do the conversion yourself without me
sending LOTS of directions. LOL So yes, you'd need to remove it and send it
to us.
The cost of the conversion is $20.00 which is mostly labor time plus the new
oil sender costs $16.89 plus $10.00 S&H. So the total is $46.89.
We don't take credit cards any more, so if you decide to proceed, just
enclose a check with the unit made our to "Digi-Devices % Art Woodell".

The standard Digi-Panel comes with its own oil pressure sender. The whole
idea of the -J model for the GMC MHs was to eliminate this requirement (easy
installation) since the oil pressure sender on the Olds engine is at the
front of the engine.
The one requirement of the GMC setup is that the factory oil pressure
gauge must be working since it gets its voltage from across the factory
sender.
The only way to get around this is to convert your -J model to a standard
unit. We supply the unit with its own sender. The normal installation has
you remove the factory sender, install a nipple and T, put the factory
sender in one side of the T and our sender in the other side.
If you wish to pursue this, let me know. I'll be out of town starting
tomorrow morning through Monday.

Dan,
I sent the email to Art in the first place because if what you reported.
I definitely want a backup system to monitor oil pressure and will be
sending my Digi Panel to him for modification to the non GMC model.
The sender I gave you is an OEM sender NOT one of his; that's probably why
yours doesn't work properly.

Rob, I think I followed that, backwards. I sent mine into Art to get the "J"
mod off of it. I have no factory gauge. Mine has never worked right though,
I believe I talked about that already. When I turn the key on, it goes to 20
pounds. When it fires up the pressure goes to max and stays there. I guess I
need to call Art and have him send me a sender. I am using the one you gave
me a couple of years back. I had a brand new one but it pegged as soon as
the key was turned on.
The other three gauges work fine and read right along with my "manual"
gauges. It is a great product that I picked up from Jimmy K several years
back. The alarm is what I like.
