Several days ago Emery and others suggested spraying the house light switchs with contact cleaner. I did this and was not impressed by the results, better but not satisfactory. I went out today and after sliding the switchs back and forth a few times five out of six are working as they should. I still may have to operate on or replace a couple of these's switches but a marked improvement.
Thanks guys!

Randall, I usually take my knife or a little steel wool to the contacts, if I can get to them. I guess it depends on where the switches are dirty. I find most times it is the spade connectors.

What contact cleaner did you use? This stuff, the full product line, has been proven best and saved my butt on many an occasion. The D5 is the basic do all to start with.

The leads on my switches are soldered to the lugs. Or do you take the switch apart and clean the contacts? Somewhere on Gene F's site is procedure to take the switches apart, clean, and hopefully get them back together. I think before I attempted that I would replace the fixtures.
John,
Thanks for the link for caig. They have a local retailer.

Ok, I got it. I use Cleaner from Radio Shack inside the switches.

Usually you can just spray the contact cleaner into the switch and move it back and forth a few times and this will clean the oxidation from the contacts.
If you have to take it apart, just bend the little tabs on the back and pull the switch apart. Don't loose the internal parts though. Usually a pencil eraser will be enough to clean up the contacts. If you use a knife, don't take off too much metal.
