Dan Gregg's blog has a very nice promo and info about dry camping using solar and LEDs. He did not intend it as a promo but sometimes that's for the best. http://www.danandteri.blogspot.com/

dan did not mention his cat heater.

I think this is what makes it all work. the other things like
light, water, etc are icing on the cake, but getting rid of the load of the
furnace, is what makes the solar really work, because now the load is
manageable with the propane appliances.

'way to go Dan

Gene, I had it there. What happened was I was losing pictures and getting frustrated. Really ticked me off. We use the furnace for a fast heat up then hit the cat heater to maintain it. It took me over 2 hours to get that short blog up today. Just one of those days. What I wanted folks to realize is that I do not rough it when we are drycamping. The only thing I give up is my ice maker which draws 125 watts when the compressor is on. The new tv really helps cuz it comes on at dark and stays on til 1 am. If we need air conditioning we move. Living in a GMC is so much fun. I could do it full time but Teri would leave me. Life truly is good and I like for people to realize it. A bad day for me, getting up before 10 am.

it takes a trooper (troopers) to live on less than 300 watts.

I love the quote:

1 gallon of gasoline is equivalent in energy content to a lead acid battery
weighing a mere........2144 pounds.

Gene and Larry, yall can see I was so aggrivated that I did not even proof read it for spelling. I may do a follow up tomorrow. On a big day we will draw our batteries down 30-50 amp hours. The new tv will help that along with the lights. We have 2 tvs running most nights because Teri does not like the shows I watch.
Her tv is a 14 inch flat screen computer monitor with an external modulator and tuner. It draws 27 watts.

Dan, I think we need to start calling you 'Mr Green'! What an example you are giving those that want to learn. Though I think you have about 300 watt solar panel on the roof? That helps shade the roof too.

I thought I was doing good with a 55 watt panel to keep the battery up, you make me look like those silly outside led lights...

Well, we just keep moving forward, don't we....
Be good Dan and Teri, have a great time

You have a good start Larry. I started with one panel too. Use big cables so you can add more as you need. There are many more folks here much smarter than I am on this stuff. I just want people to realize that this can be done by anyone. A real deep understanding is not needed. I plan to run a second part later today. The dang gremlins frustrated me yesterday so I quit before anyone could tell I was not having a real good day. Twisted Evil
