I always wondered if it wasn't a better idea to lift the front end by using the center of the engine crossmember (the one that the swaybar is attached to). An adapter to mate with the curved crossmember and have a plate for a floor jack would be great to have.
Just thinking out loud..........

There was some previous commentary that the "pegs"
on this unit fits into holes that are NOT in the
center of the cross-member. I bought one anyway.
Mine arrived wearing a BLACK paint job.

This device and the one mentioned later here:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5434
are two different items.
The first is a full width bar to lift under the radiator support. If you attempt to lift the GMC without this bar on that light duty cross member will likely bend.
The other is designed to better stabilize the jack on the main suspension cross member, which can hold the weight. As noted it will not center exactly but it is probably not significant. I find a chunk of 2X4 in the jack pad does an adequate job of gripping the cross member.

G'day,
Being a lazy bugger I bought a 20 ton air over hydraulic bottle jack that I
place under a piece of 4" X 4" hardwood across the bottom of the front
"holey" cross member. It worked OK to raise the GMC to put jack stands under
it. I wasn't happy with using it as could slip off.
As I type there is a piece of 2" x 4" thick walled box beam sitting on the
bumper support of The Blue Streak that I intended to make one of the red
fixtures out of. It appears that the one on the photo site is 2" box beam
with a reinforcing piece on the bottom, I may drop down to a 2" x 3" beam.
I never thought of welding a floor jack plate to it but will do so as it's a
bloody good idea!
I have two of Terry's jack plates (one in Aus and one in the USA) that go
under the front cross member and the fact that the two holes are not in the
center don't matter, the coach still jacks up straight.
Regards,
Rob M.

so you guys are saying it is OK to lift under the bumper crossmember if you use that red beam? it sure makes the short floor jack easier to use.

Fred,
With that tool you aren't really lifting on the bumper cross member at all,
the ends of the tool extend under the end of the main frame rail where the
bumper mounts are in between the "Y" at the end of the frame rail.

Fred,
With that tool you aren't really lifting on the bumper cross member, the
ends of the tool extend under the end of the main frame rail where the
bumper mounts are in between the "Y" at the end of the frame rail.
In an earlier email I noted that I had a 2" x 4" piece of thick walled box
beam I was going to use or drop to a 2" x 3" piece. I realized that if I
used either of these it would be a good idea to extend the front and rear
sides that capture the bumper crossmember so the tool could not twist and
the GMC fall off!
Considerations:
1) According to the Owners Manual the GAWR on the front wheels is 4,200
pounds so in theory you will need a 2.5 ton floor jack.
2) The floor jack may not get the GMC high enough off the ground as you'd
like it to be so after you put jack stands under the frame you should
consider getting one of Mr. erf's jack plates made by Terry Skinner to raise
it higher from under the curved cross member:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=33123
Buying one of these will help fund Mr. erf's and Terry's vacation homes in
the Bahamas.

i understand you are TRYING to lift at the ends of the support beam. i found my beam calculator but i need the modulus for the tube size he is using to see how much deflection it will take.
