G'day,

It is hard to believe in 5 days we will be in Orlando. It only seems like it was last week we started planning our trip to the U.S.
Thank you to all who contributed information, both forum and off line, to help plan our tour.

We have 6 days in Orlando to do the theme parks, then our daughters head to Washington, New York then Lexington.
Mean while Gail and I pickup our rental RV and join up with the GMCers at Ken H's and convoy to the FMCA rally.I didn't notice the Dillard rally until recently, so hope to put in at least a day there before meeting up with our daughters in Lexington.
The girls then head home via San Fransisco and L.A.,whilst we visit Memphis on our way back to Florida to tour around. We hope to make the Keys, Dave G has warned us of the distances involved. Then we head to the Patterson rally via Pensacola, where we hope to put many more faces to the names on this forum.I am glad Rob M has decided to try and make this rally too, I might need an interpreter!
After the Patterson rally we then drop the rental off in Houston and head home via L.A., hopfully with our suitcases full of goodies for our GMC.

So if you happen to see a balding, fat, old man wondering around, mumbling in a strange accent, don't be concerned it is probably only me, suffering withdrawal because I am so far from my own GMC and tool box. Sad

I doubt we have a real problem with your accent. Peter was here a couple years back and we managed. So, glad yall are coming. We will at least get to visit with you in Patterson. This is going to be a great gathering.

What are your plans in Orlando???
If you are staying at Disneys Fort Wilderness ( I hope you make reservations ) you will have absolute access to the parks on Disney Transportation. You can stay outside off property but a bit cheaper and somewhat inconvenient.

At Disney WE usually make sure we get HOPPER tickets, you have to add the hopper, which allows you to go to another park the same day on the same ticket.

Disneys Animal Kingdom is only open a half day so do that, then go to Disney MGM for the rest of the day.

Magic kingom is easily an all day show with fire works end of day.

Epcot Center / world showcase is also a good day with fireworks at the end of day at World Showcase. They say a good spot to watch is from the American pavilion. they shoot the works over the lake.

A fun show is the WhoopDeeDo Revue, in Disneys FortWilderness. Try to get reservations now if you did not yet.

They have a nice cafeteria type restraunt next to the WhoopdeeDoo Revue building. The food has been pretty good there.

I can't vouch for the food in the parks anymore, Disney keeps bringing in outside sources so its up to you, flip a coin.

Sea World is down on I4, you can rent a car from Disney Property, Try to reserve now, the rate might be cheaper.

You are in for a fun time, good luck

Actually, Universal Studios and Sea-World are also fun if you get tired of the Mouse! There is certainly no lack of things to do and see in Orlando. Just remember, you always exit through the gift shops!

I would also concur on the Hopper Pass, it is nice to be able to go from park to park if you have the energy. The Disney monorail and buses do a nice job of shuttling people around the parks.

Mark,

Just in case we lose contact, my cell number is two two nine 938
twenty-seven ninety-seven. We'll be starting the transmission overhaul on 9
March and the "official" Pre-Rally will begin on 11 March. I'll be
publishing NSEW approach directions to the farm soon, but if you don't get
them, call me and I'll give them to you orally. Pretty easy from I-75.

Looking forward to your visit,

Ken H.

Sir Mark,

Do plan to get to Dillard if only for a 24-hour period or so. Contact Bob
Stockholm for an adjusted rate for the rally fee if you're only able to stay
less than 36 hours. Contact River Vista separately for a space.

Go to http://www.gmceast.com/rally/spring2011.html for information. Look at
the Spring Registration tab for the PDF you can complete and email.

We'd love to have you visit with us.

Actually, if you haven't ever been by Jim Bounds GMC Coop, it is fun to visit. It's northwest of the Orlando airport, but not too hard to find.

It will certainly fix any GMC lust you may experience!

Yes,

I would put Jim B's place first on the tour guides list. I stopped by about
5-6 years ago. He gave me the .25 cent tour. I felt right at home.

We did Disney last October and I was glad we didn't do the hopper. The cost adds up pretty quickly and trying to cram even more into each day doesn't always equate to a more enjoyable visit. The less I spend, the less I feel have to "get my money's worth". We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter which was convenient. I kinda felt after the 2nd day like I was on a cruise ship where you only had what the cruise line provided to choose from. I really wish they had put a CVS or Walgreens in at Downtown Disney just to grab a last-minute need without having to go off-site (in ourt case a $20 cab ride for some corn starch powder).

Amazingly the kids seemed to enjoy watching a TV show about Disney World and remembering what they saw than they did actually being there. I guess we were all a little overwhelmed.

It's a shame that you won't be in Orlando on 18 thru 20 March.
The GMC Sunshine Statesmen are holding their Drag Race Dry Camp Rally at the Bithlo-Orlando Race Park. Should be fun.

The only Disney stores are in Fort Wilderness. They carry SOME STUFF but limited. Access by Disney Transport system.

The new problem is the Dog Kennel. Disney closed the kennels at the park entrances and at Fort Wilderness. They built One Big one, I think it is by Port Orleans but they wont transport you to the kennel. they say they built it for Guest convenience but I don't see how making the guest need a car to find this place to put your pet in, and they want you to come check on him daily, is any way convenient for the guest. But the pets do have color flat screen TV... I thought pets couldn't see the tv, they only hear it??

Ok, rant off.

I do like Disney, but.....

My wife's Golden Retriever, Daisy (Ken Burton's best friend) LOVES TV.
She watches the dog
shows, loves Animal Planet, she even gets upset when she watches
Animal Cops and sees
the pets being abused.

Pets can see TV. They are just smarter than we are and don't pay any attention to it. (unless it is a cockatoo on the screen).
