I think what is or should be standard protocal is not to publish private emails on the mailing list. Whatever you are sent privately should remain between the person sending it and you. If he had wanted it published on the list he would have replied to you on the list. Would you rather he had published his reply on the list for all to see?

You have a choice of either ignoring it or responding back to the sender.

I have received similar messages, though not from this person, that I can remember...... I just ignored it considering the person.

I agree with Jimk. Email was out of line whether private or net posted. A community forum benefits from the free exchange of ideas and opinions. Tolerance of those with differing views is the proper etiquette, in my opinion.

Guys let us remember one important thing; IT'S THE INTERNET! it is often entertaining to watch a flame war though, i've been in the middle of the #$%% more times than I can count, but at the end of the day we must remember that single rule, and not to take it personal...

In the good ole US of A, everybody has a right to
express his or her opinions.

There is absolutely NO concurrent right that demands
that ANYONE has to take those opinions seriously or
otherwise pay any attention whatsoever to those opinions!

Those with thin skins need to learn to practice the
tolerance that they demand for themselves.

And THIS is NON political; it applies to ALL!

> I have to agree with JimK about making a private email public, but mainly when it contains or borders on intimidation etc. No member here should have to feel silenced or unwelcome because they wrote something with good intention even if it was off topic. On the other hand, everyone should use good judgement & restraint when considering stirring the pot over personal issues. We don't always have to hang our dirty laundry out in public.

Not so, Gene. Per the list guidelines:

Personal "Off List Attacks". Email sent directly to another GMCnetter
containing personal attacks for views expressed on the list.

Agreed. No sense in posting something private for all to see unless it
becomes harassment.

True that we live where we feel free to express our opinions. However, keep
in mind that with freedom comes responsibility. Personally, I think it was
irresponsible to send a private email stating that another person's opinion
wasn't welcomed. On the other hand, keep in mind that postings and the
expression of opinion must also be done in a responsible manner.

We all know this. We don't always practice it, however.

I'm going to have to agree with Emery on this one. Not to say that you can be out of line on the private side of this GMC toolbox we have had setup here and be OK. There are still guidelines. Also, remember that the stuff you say here will show up on Google searches of yourself. Could be taken out of context when others search you.
