Don,

As I sit here admiring the majestic snow-covered glacier, I am remembering weather of years long gone.

When I was first in Michigan and running iron boats, there was a lot of weather change as would be expected going up to Superior and coming back south. Then we did several runs from Oregon (near Toledo) to Lackawanna (near Buffalo) And took about the same beating between hot and cold and snow and rain. I asked a shipmate if the Lake Erie weather was always like this. His reply is a line I came to hear a lot over the following years.

"If don't like the weather, wait five minutes."

That majestic glacier, it's mine. The first winter that I have owned it that it has seen snow on the roof (other barn projects and the grandkids have shot my winter work plans).

Matt
