I'll copy some text here so it's not lost when the auction eventually vanishes.

Opinions (please)? [It wasn't me by the way].

"I just drove this motorhome over 1,600 miles to south Florida from my home in Indiana and I am currently camping in Port Saint Lucie, FL. It has over $28,000.00 in receipts from Cinnabar Engineering where they performed a complete (motor, transmission, suspension and brakes) mechanical rebuild only 11k miles ago. I have all the paper work and a break down of the work that has been done. The body is in great condition, the paint still looks good (stripe is faded) and the undercarriage is imaculate (NO RUST)! There is also a 18' ZipDee awning with a brand new spring installed for ease of use when you need a nice shady spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The interior has had a number of upgrades including new Intelli-power converter, new house batteries, laminate flooring, new furnace and electric wall heater, new Dometic fridge/freezer, new Duo-Therm roof A/C with heat, 22" flat screen monitor...etc. The list goes on and on the easiest way to do this is to tell you what hasn't been replaced or rebuilt. The window weather stripping needs replaced ($250), the water heater needs a new tank and the mufflers need attention. THATS IT! there is nothing else that I can think of that needs done on this amazing coach. Its a side wet-bath model. In the pictures you will notice I took a few decorating liberties. I removed half the dinette to give the coach a bit more "leg-room" but it is included and easily bolted back in place, I also have the original couch back that swings up to become a bunk bed and I have a mattress (not included) on the rear fold down dinette for my sleeping quarters. Both pieces are in fine condition I just chose to remove them to suit my own tastes. Most of the original headliner is in good shape however one panel has a bit of a sag (see pic.) and I also have replacement automotive carpet for the front "driver" and "passenger" area that has yet to be installed. Mechanically this coach is like new. Cinnabar installed a completely remanufactured 455 and rebuilt the trans axle including a new 3.42 final drive gear ratio for improved performance. All of the brake lines/brakes were replaced as well as the entire air compressor assembly for the air-bag rear suspension and it works perfectly. The tires are E rated Michelins and only have a few thousand miles on them. The 6KW generator needs a fuel line but runs like new.
Overall this GMC is in amazing condition and I would not hesitate to drive it across the country, HECK, I JUST DID! Don't miss your chance to own a true classic Motorhome. These are the most sought after motorhomes there are and are not only a pleasure to own but will undoubtedly increase in value (unlike most rv's).
Feel free to call me at 765-635-9435 anytime before 10:00 pm EST if you have any questions or are near south Florida and would like to inspect it first hand."

Gord,
I've not followed prices all that closely, but I'd say someone got a good deal even if only 1/4 the upgrades were true. Doesn't say when they were done, but if it was one you were interested in (next time, realize this one is already sold) you could probably call Steve up at Cinnabar and get the info from him, if the owner didn't want to provide it. I'm curious about the age of the re-do's because they look like old 16.5" wheels, and he mentions "new" Michelin tires, and I'm pretty sure Michelin stopped making the 16.5's several years ago. So, "new" may have more flexibility in meaning than you would think!

From the outside it looks almost identical to my '77 Kingsley in condition when I got it. Same crappy stripes, paint probably less good than described but maybe slightly better than mine, and pretty crappy bumpers (maybe slightly worse than mine) which are expensive. Mine didn't have an awning or any upgrades/replacements of any kind on it. But, other than appearance items it did and does run and drive fairly well. The interior on this one is about 10x nicer than mine, including their headliner being less shot than mine. I paid $6,500 for it 4 years ago. If true, the front axle and trans. are about $1,500 apiece, and at Cinnabar prices, the engine was probably at least $6,000. Maybe $1,000 for a fridge, $500-600 for an air conditioner. I'd have wanted to see the receipts, though.

Hi Craig and thanks,

Indeed, I was just curious more than anything - I watched the auction end last night and when it did, it struck me that the price versus all the work seemed...well, like quite a bargain.

Great observations you've made and thanks for the pointers too. I have to weigh in such a sizeable amount for airfare and fuel or shipping to get it at least reasonably close to me so for myself, it would have probably been less than a great deal, but for someone who lives within a few hundred miles and assuming all is true, I do feel someone did very, very well.

Thanks again Craig!

Gord Smile
