In my case, I'm not as worried about the quality of the MP3 --- probably
couldn't tell the difference on the GMC's poor sound system. It's more the daunting
task of converting a very large collection from FLAC to something else. If I must go to
that much trouble, it'd be nice to keep the quality while adding portability.
Or better yet, find a FLAC-capable player.
There are some nice USB powered disk drives now of sufficient size to hold
the whole music collection as-is, if I could just find a car device to play it.
Might just have to resort to a "car-puter".
thanks,
Karen

Unless you have a really impressive sound system, the mid-level does a great job for "road music" and a single cd can run 5+ hours. The best MP3 files (not what usually downloads cheap) are hard to tell from the original CD. My hearing has gone bad and lot of the high frequency response has been lost, but am still very sensitive to slew rate (wave shape) and sound image issues that escape many listeners.
