On the photo site, there is a photo of a cut-out made on the dash cover to make it easier to R & R.

Is this still a recommended procedure? Has anyone who has done this had any problem with additional cracking or other issues? I currently have the cover off my dash and will be re-installing it, but will need to remove it again soon to make further repairs to the HVAC controls.

The cut-out did not cause any further cracking in my dash cover. I believe that the P.O. did the cut-out in 1992. It sure makes removing and replacing the dash cover easier. I believe that the windshields were one of the last things to be installed in the coach, by GMC, so that the work crew could access the back of the instrument panel.

OK guys, Thanks. I guess I need to get out my saber saw, after work, and make that cut, so I can put that cover back on, before I leave for the Saguaro Jetset rally this afternoon.

Carl,
The main thing you have to be careful removing it before you mod it so you
don't crack it.
Chuck Boyd and I modified the one in Double Trouble several years ago. For
the life of me I can't remember how we did it.
I don't think we used a saber saw it might have been a Dremel with one of
the small coarse sanding drums.

When I got home yesterday and looked at the cover, I realized it couldn't be cut with a jig saw because of the angle of the shroud on the top. I ended up making a really clean cut on it with a pair of offset tin snips. They cut the plastic like butter without stressing the material. the cover did go on a lot easier than it came off. The snips I used were left hand cutting (I think). Anyway, they have red handles.

I cut mine with an old hole saw. I ran the drill very slowly until the teeth
got a good bite in the plastic then I revved it up a little. The rest I took
out with a rasp being somewhat aggressive but gentle.
