Hello all. I have been lurking for a month or so, and feel I should introduce myself before I start asking too many stupid questions. My name is Mark Grueninger and I traded a motorcycle for a 76 Pine Bluff fixerupper. Had it about 3 months now and have resealed most of the windows, replaced the water pump, fixed several leaks in the air bag system and rebuilt the leveling valves. I managed to find 6 16inch steel wheels and am in the process of putting tires on them. I have gotten most of the systems working except the air compressor. I still have an exaust lead on the right manifold and lots of wiring and the dash air conditioner and airbox problems to fix. I have read and continue to read a lot of posts here and elseware to get an idea of what my priorities should be. I intend to use it to pull my pair of seadoos to the lake this summer so no long trips as yet planned. Thanks for your time and suggustions.

Welcome! And for that exhaust manifold leak - if the manifold is still good pick up a set of Remflex gaskets, Jim K sells them. They worked for me!

Mark,
Welcome aboard! It sounds as if you've have a busy 3 months.
Remember that the only stupid question is the unasked one. And you probably
won't come up with any that someone here hasn't asked before.

Mark,
Welcome to the cult! Sounds like you are capable and should fit in well here. Don't worry about your questions.... you know what they say about stupid questions!
I know what a "fixerupper" is but am not sure about a "76 Pine Bluff." It is possible that someone named the coach something unique. (I have seen several interesting names.) But Pine Bluff isn't a GMC motorhome model. If you hadn't mentioned the "air bag system" and "leveling valves" I might have suspected that you had a class c. (or a SOB... Some Other Brand.)
It would be a good idea to test fit your 16 inch steel wheels (in both front and rear positions) to ensure they will fit before you install new tires. Be sure they have the correct shape and pilot hole size.
I am not a boater but.. Be careful on the boat ramp with a GMC. the weight transfers off the front to the rear causing less traction on the drive wheels. Also the parking brakes normally are not that good. I have seen front mounted hitches for launching boats. Actual boater should have more an better input.
Good luck with your coach... Pine Bluff or not!

mgrue wrote on Wed, 16 February 2011 11:25 | Thanks for the welcome. I have already found several answers to questions. Does anyone make a reciever hitch for the front of the GMC for boat launching? Looks like the best way to launch.

I agree that seems the easier way to launch, but I think about crowded, busy ramps where you are surrounded by impatient boaters while you:
Unhook from the back,
block the trailer,
turn the coach around,
Hook up to the front,
push the rig down to the bottom of the wet ramp with only front wheel drive,
deal with the boat,
pull the trailer back up the ramp,
back against traffic to park the coach and trailer.
Reverse the sequence at the end of the day when everyone is Really impatient.
I'm looking to find a boatyard with a crane.
