Well, as with all good projects, it gets more and more involved. After the counter top redo (the top is going to the shop today for two weeks), I am now looking for a flip couch to install. I have two 75" bench seats opposite each other (slight offset). Both have loose cushions and are not great to sit on since the backs are too low and the window blinds get in the way of reclining. They sit on "storage boxes" containing the water tank, the heater and the inverter. I had toyed with installing a dinette, but that would mean BIG changes. I am open to change for the sake of comfort and think a flip-couch would be it, since it is mounted on top of storage.

Not meaning to step on Nick's request, but is that sofa designed to sit on top of the boxes as in my Royale. I'd like to find something that would just span the boxes where the dinette now sits. Ken H.?

G'day Stretch,
If you look at this picture:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=36494
You will see the couch is in two sections, the upper section with the
padding and flip mechanism and the lower section with the legs.
There are horizontal bars under the seating section where I slid my tool box
and various bits and pieces for storage. I had two plastic file cabinets
under there that just cleared those bars where I'd put small stuff. I think
the couch could be mounted on top of the LPG cabinet as long as the
mechanism on the sides were clear.
I will be attending the Patterson, LA GMCMI Convention and can look at a
Royale and determine if it is possible.
I will also be passing through Americus on my way to the Bean Station, TN
Rally. And can look at your Royale.

Not to interrupt, but -- does the seat or back mechanism go below the level
of the rail. I think for a Royale it all needs to stay above the seat level.
A lot of others I've seen invade the space when unfolding.
Best to be sure.

Byron,
When the couch in question goes from a seat to a bed the part between the
side mechanisms did not invade the space below the horizontal bars below the
seating section.
The file cabinets that just fit under the horizontal bars extended from the
front of the couch to the side wall of Double Trouble.
I am reasonably confident that the couch can be mounted on top of anything
as long as the side mechanisms which extend below the horizontal bars are
free to operate and that the distance from the floor to the top of whatever
it is mounted on is the same as the height of the leg section.
I'm sure I have successfully confused everybody now!
Your "last words are correct!" Before I sell it to anybody I will make damn
sure I'm right! I wouldn't want to wind of paying to ship or bring it back
to Houston because it didn't work! ;-)

Subject to all the usual disclaimers, I think a couch like Rob's would work
if the tank was turned along the wall and the platform beneath the dinette
extended to provide normal seat height. I suspect you'd want to extend that
elevated floor all the way across the coach, which might cause a problem
with the kitchen cabinet doors -- the platform may be higher than the bottom
of the doors. Barring that problem, the elevated floor would not be all bad
-- lift up doors would make the space beneath available for tool stowage.

Rob,
Made perfect sense to me. But, I tend to think upside down anyway.
You've clarified that the "hinges/angle brackets/whatever" do go below the
horizontal bar and that there should be clearance there.
On a rear bath Royale where the couch cushions sit on a platform this
wouldn't work. However, around the dinette area it could be made to work if,
as Ken has pointed, the gas tank was moved and if the step (behind) the
passenger seat was altered. On my coach, that intermediate step is the same
height as the box over the LP tank.
Stick, in my opinion you may not need the raised platform. It depends on the
knee-to-foot length in question. For our Royale (since Martha and her girls
had short legs) I made footstools. The floor stays at it's level and the
footstools work well for those who are vertically challenged.
