I just have to ask this question of the horseshoe pitchers. Does anyone
know what "quoits" are - or am I too far south? lol!

I'm way up north and we played quoits with garden hose made in to a circle and joined the ends.
Same thing?

Well,

WAY back in the day - my Dad and his brothers and my grandfather played
quoits at the family gatherings. Steel pegs were about 25' apart. The
quoits themselves were dished and round with the inner hole about 2.5 inches
in diameter. Outer diameter about 7". Weight was 2.5 pounds each. The
quoits had a live and a dead side. They only counted for points it they
landed live side up. Ringers are 5 points, leaners 3 points and closet to
the pin - 1 point. I have an old family photo album showing the men playing
quotes with my grandfather's 192x car in the background. He brought the
quoits from Germany when he came to the USA.

Quoits can still be purchased new in the Pennsylvania Dutch country.
Available in steel and the premium ones are made of bronze - supposedly
made in te same foundry the Liberty Bell was cast.

Yup, I know, even if I'm not a horseshoe pitcher.

Sure, in the Bronx or Brooklyn, a quoit is 2 pints or one 1/4 gallon.
VBG! A GMC fridge (content) will hold quite a few qouits.

Michael,

Thanks, I do remember seeing that link a while back.

And I stand corrected on the weight of the quoits. They are 4lbs. each.
The 2.5 pound ones are for wimps.

http://www.usqa.org/usquoits/usquoits.htm

Might be fun at a GMC rally or work meet if there was enough interest.

Tom E.
