I think this was asked before (maybe by me), but I'm wondering if anyone has removed the inside cockpit panels (with the armrests) on a '77 or '78 Royale. I'm trying to get the outside mirrors off, and of course, one of the eight mounting studs is turning.
The Royale, and maybe all of the later coaches used bolts, or studs, from the inside of the body. I don't know how they're attached, but obviously this one isn't! The only way to see the studs is to remove the inside panels.
It looks like the panels have an integral horizontal lip that is under the edge of the wood floor board. I'm just wondering if this is really the case - I can't believe the floor has to come up to get these panels off. Any ideas?

Mine do have a ledge that sits against the floor, and are screwed into the wooden floorboards. There are also screws along the top of the side panel, and there is a screw that attaches the side panel to the dash panel (barely accessable from under the dash.
There were also some screws that attached the back edge of the side panel that showed up when the side panel was removed. Of course, there has been a lot of modification over the years, so you can't be absolutely sure of what you'll find.

I was able to slip an awl in between the mirror and the fiberglas and hold the little doodad from turning.
On the rider's side, I was able to get my hand up in there, near the where the floor starts up. This was on a 77 Eleganza. There was a little place where I could bend the plastic out a bit. I am skinny with little monkey hands. I think this could be done on the driver's side although the pedals make it hard to get in there.
We were trying to get an antenna wire toward the back so we removed the tray in the arm rest on the riders side. I don't think you can reach the nuts from there, but who knows? They are brittle but they can be removed.
