My boat has four of the Slim-Line type fluorescent fixtures.
The tubes are about 18" long.

Two of them have died. The oscillator circuits to convert
13V DC to 120V AC have cratered.

These flank mirrors in the head areas (bathrooms for you
landlubbers) used for shaving, etc. Would LED replacements
provide the correct color temperature and diffused light
needed for that use?

Well, that picture is in the dim light
of the Golden Corral buffet in NW OKC
and backlighted to boot!

It doesn't apply to the light available
in the two shower areas on our boat!

Mac,

From what I have seen the recently posted LED conversions are very dependent on individual expectations and needs. Very much -- try them, you might like them -- Understandable since they are primarily a "bulb" replacement.
This may be acceptable for some that dry camp -- but $100 to relamp the bath module for the potential power savings is not a priority for me.
Perhaps in a couple of years we will see more proven conversions or complete fixtures available -- at prices that show better payback for the expected usage.

Perhaps additional info is needed since I didn't find
anything on prudentrver that matches what I need.

One fixture dating to about 1986 was made by Xantrex.
The other, from about 1995, has no label on it.

Both fixtures use a single F13T5 tube, available in
both cool white (CW) and warm white (WW) versions.

The overall fixture is about 24" long by 3" wide.
They don't get much use, so I guess I'll just get
some fluorescent replacements. They don't have to
withstand frequent usage without either "shore" or
"engine" power.

Mac,

I replaced the two incandescent "side" lamps with two LED under counter
lights each having 9 LEDs. My guess is I'm at about 85% of the originals.
I'm thinking of adding something or going with Ultra Brite LEDs.

There is no need to spend 100 bux for replacements in the bath.
I hope to bring some of these to GMCMI in April so you can see what I am talking about. These things are unbelievable.

Dan,

Tell the factory owner that you have a BUNCH of potential customers so he
gives you a selection of sample pieces so people can see how bright they

Dan,

The $100 number was -- two panels per flourescent fixture $25 per panel. Did I misunderstand?

And I do appreciate the technology and how much it may mean to some users/owners.

Thanks for your help --

Ok Dennis. I would have to see just what you have. One panel, in each fixture, might do what you are getting with 2 12 inch lites in the bath. LED lights are not for every rver, no doubt about it. I doubt that I would be involved if I never dry camped.
Rob, I am doing my best to get some stuff to bring to GMCMI to show folks, in the dark. I see you are going to be there. You are always welcome to stop by again if you get close to us. I can always learn from you.
dan
ps
Maybe John Ruff will come to GMCMI. He could give a great talk.

I have first hand experience with these LED lights. Last year I bought some from John Ruff, while at Quartzsite. I have replaced the 12" fluorescent tubes in one of my ceiling fixtures with the same set-up as Dan has:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37566&title=led-flouressant-replacements&cat=5644>

I also replaced the center bulbs in my bathroom fixtures (the ones that turn on at the first click of the switch) with these:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37472&title=2nd-best-led&cat=5644>

This year I bought some more of the second type, from Dan, and put them in my range hood lights, and in my porch light (2 - 3 LED strips)

I also added some LED dome lights above my couch for reading etc. that Dan Told me about, on eBay:

< http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SeaSense-Surface-Mt-LED-Task-Light-Soft-White-50023856-/400179543844?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item5d2c8f 3f24>

These all work great and are as bright as the lamps they replaced. I don't expect to get a return on my investment out of these, but the are great for dry camping. One less thing to use up my batteries.

I just put up an album of the LED lighting I have installed on my coach. These lights came from the vendor in Quartzsite that Dan Gregg and John Ruff were working with.

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/misc.php?action=orderphotos&s=&cat=5703>

I really like these lights and, although the old lights were not the major power hog (I still have the original Norcold electric fridge), it makes me feel good about using them on battery power.

Carl
Thank you for posting. Nice work. Easier to understand how to install.

I did not realize the light fixtures varied quite so much over the years of production.

In www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37598, Is that 4 ZL3 LEDs?
As at www.prudentrver.com/zipled.html? $40 worth of LEDs to replace one
1156 bulb? If not, which LED are they?

In www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37586, which item(s) on
www.prudentrver.com/ledfleds.html is it?

Thanks for sharing

I really like these lights and, although the old lights were not the major
power hog (I still have the original Norcold electric fridge), it makes me
feel good about using them on battery power.

In www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37598, Is that 4 ZL3 LEDs?
As at www.prudentrver.com/zipled.html? $40 worth of LEDs to replace one
1156 bulb? If not, which LED are they?

In www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=37586, which item(s) on
www.prudentrver.com/ledfleds.html is it?

Thanks for sharing

Billy,

You'll have to confirm this with Dan but, I think the ones I used to replace the 1156 bulbs are the ZL3 strips with the B15s.ZLX bases.

Yes, they were $30.00 - $40.00 plus the bases (usually you use three strips to replace an 1156 bulb). Not cheap, but very effective. Guaranteed for life.

In the fluorescent fixtures I used the fLED-6S (X-2). I have only done one of these so far. Last year I bought the stuff to do one fluorescent (2 ea. fLED-6s) and three 1156s (3 ea bases and 9 ea ZL3) for $100.00 cash. So there were deals to be had at the big RV show tent.

I just put up an album of the LED lighting I have installed on my coach. ...

Link did not seem to work. Here is one that does:

Hmmm...That's funny... they both worked fine for me.

I think it is the part of the URL : ...action=orderphotos&s..

I get: "Must be logged in to sort photos."

I try and not link to the URL used while I am logged in. They seem to behave oddly.

Carl, you are the owner of the album so the first link works for you but not us.
One can replace the single bulb with two ZL3 strips. That is 10.00 per strip. So, 20 bux plus 2 bux for the socket. 22 dollars is an expensive light but if you dry camp and need bright lights, it is a good deal. I would not use 3 of those strips in one socket, over kill. You do not have to go with the ZLS for 26 dollars but it is brighter than 3 ZL3 strips. It is also out of stock as we sold 3-400 of them at Quartzsite. When folks saw what it did they bought.
Led lights are not yet ready for every type fixture that our wives like but they are coming.
What is neat about the fluorescent lights Prudent sells is this:
5 minute job. The panel that they are on is not flat, but rounded, so it throws the light out at a greater angle than the leds in a tube {staight down}. The guy that owns this factory is very intelligent. He has little "good sense" about sales. That is why prudentrver.com is out here. If I sell these it will be for prudentrver.com.
Dan,

Those are really good photos of the lights Carl. I see your fluorescents from last year are different than those from this year. Also, the fixture I bought in Quartzsite is identical to your's. I should have grabbed 2 of them for the price. We are going back through and if they are still there I will get another one. We will have only led's in our coach when I am done.
Dan
