I used butyl tape (bought at RV Surplus in Elkhart, IN.). It's not supposed to dry out and remains flexable, so hopefully will keep sealing the area and try to keep it waterproof.

The butyl tape must be what they sealed the OEM refrig vent with. When I pulled mine off to replace it with a new one, the presumably original black gooey stuff was still gooey and sticky - after 35 years. Amazing stuff.J76 PBPortland, OR

Jay, I think Surefit in Portland has Butyl tape in 1/16" T x 1" W as well as
1/8" T x 1" W. Used to anyway.

If you want butyl rubber tape we keep it in stock for window installation. We have 25 foot rolls 1/2 inch wide and 3/16 inches thick for $10.00.

Any glass shop should have it; commonlly referred to as "glazing tape" Once you've established what you are looking for ask for butyl glazing tape.

Most of the RV guys carry this tape, but call it "Putty tape"
be careful, because it gets old and stiff on the shelf, so it is good to
get it from an active vendor, and be sure it is not new-old-stock

I have bought the 3m stuff in rolls from the NAPA warehouse... so any NAPA
store should be able to get it for you.
