Yes, for a few years Ford built an "unlocker," a poor man's antiskid system. It
think they were all electronic. It sensed wheel lockup and blocked the
hydraulic line to that wheel and dumped some fluid. But when the wheel started
to turn it didn't replenish the fluid - it just reconnected it to the system.
So as it worked your pedal kept dropping until eventually there was no rear
brake left. They found it worked okay, as it did prevent the initial lockup and
during most stops you didn't run out of pedal. It was on the rears only.

Yes, that is correct, we do not want to skid to a stop, but if you can't lock
them up then you can't get close to lockup and some braking is lost. It would
be great if we could actually develop an ABS system. Ford pickups used to have
rear wheel only ABS; does anyone know how that worked? Was it mechanical or
electronic?
