things are looking good for the NORCAL-GMC work-rally
Richard Buzkin - is hosting a non-denominational, no-frills, work rally at
his place in Chico, CA.
drop him a note if you are planning to come, to help him plan for parking.
---------------------
from Richard:

It will be Feb 5th and 6th (Sat and Sun) rain or shine in Chico CA.

Thinking of starting at 9am til dark, both days.

The address is 841 Cherry St. right off Hwy. 32 (which is also known as West
9th St.)

here is a map link...

http://goo.gl/W5zfP

I have lined up more free parking with 120volt power (but no sewer) for 20
coaches.

He has a shop that will hold 2 GMCs for work projects.
------------------------------

things to see:

1- 2ea of the Hubler 1-ton front ends should be there and the guys who done
it.
2- THE 4 cylinder diesel should be there to look at
3 - Ron might be there with his inovative coach (oil filled rear bearings,
efi, frame-up restoration, etc
http://www.cathy-ron.com/
4 - Swap meet _ I will post pix today 2ea OEM GRILLS, 7ea tires n wheels, 6
OEM GMC hubcaps, etc

This is a first for Chico, and will be a blast

more later

I have lined up a winery tour and tasting as well (5 mile drive
from the my warehouse). This is an amazing park like setting!

I am also talking with the owners there (ex GMC folks) about
lettting us park our coaches at the winery. More on that soon.

I did confirm parking (off street) here in Chico for 20/25
coaches. Bring an extension cord if you want 120 volts
after 9pm. No on site sewer but I will see if I can locate
a local dump station.

We will have indoor space to work on 6/7 coaches, some tools,
Wi-Fi, laptops, air compressors.

Might need, more jack stands, floor jacks, hand tools,
extension cords, creepers.

Also, everything will be no cost.

Any other ideas? Contact me at bukzin (at) gmail.com

Hi,
Have been lurking on this site for some time and enjoying the great posts on the various subjects, I am hoping to attend the Nor-Cal work weekend if space is available.
I can bring tools, wine and mechanical/electrical knowledge to the set.

Nick,

We have plenty of space and would love for you to make it.

Some extra extension cords (longer the better) would
be helpful.

Where are you based?

Thank you for the invite and I will bring some long cords.
Rob,
your concern is (almost) valid, but we will use the wine for medicinal purposes at the end of the day. You know, to make the pain of work go away. BTW I would love to see your coach.

Nick,

Double Trouble is still a work in progress (as is The Blue Streak). I was
smarter with Double Trouble as I didn't tear it apart and am doing it as we
go along and using it.

Got too excited with The Blue Streak and gutted it now I have a HUGE project
on my hands! DUMB! There really wasn't anything really wrong with the
interior; the PO's workmanship wasn't up to my anally retentive
perfectionist standards so I "had" to gut it! DUMBER!

Helen and I do loops out of Houston, we haven't gotten past the central mid
west but eventually we'll get out to California and the Pacific Northwest.
We'd also like to drive up to Alaska.

When Helen gets around to planning your Alaska trip let me know. I'm ready
to tag along. As far as I'm concerned, a drive to Alaska is an opportunity
for misery to love company.

Rob,
I have read some stories on this board about "drive it first - then fix it" from knowledgable GMCers. I too wanted to tear into it, but I send it to JimK for a complete frontend rebuild and tune-up first. He advised me to use it first. Well I should have it back any day now and will go on the Chico run as the Maiden voyage. Good luck with your projects. I will be in Salina, KS on July29 for a car show. We might see you there.

Nick,

I was not clear with my previous email, I was talking about the interior.

When I bought Double Trouble; Ken Frey picked it up for me and I asked him
to; "fix anything that might kill us or leave us stranded by the side of the
road."

He did that very well as we made our first tour of the east coast and
nothing he had worked on failed. New stuff cropped up but obviously that
wasn't his fault.

At the end of that tour I spent two months at the Coop where I dug into it
even further. I went there again this past summer and got further into it.
Basically I've almost finished going through all the mechanical systems and
we have the interior in the configuration we like (as it was delivered from
Avion). I should finish up going through the mechanicals this year then it's
time to pretty up the interior.

Byron,

When we made the trip to Alaska in 2000, there was no misery involved for
the first 3-3/4 months. Then we got back to Kansas in August with no a/c
and the necessity to lay over while our travelling companions' SOB was laid
up.

Great trip. Be sure to do the "Top of the World Highway" route.

G'day,

Please don't hold your breath waiting for us to make the trip to Alaska. As
I said we make loops out of Houston and haven't gotten any further west than
St. Louis, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Dallas, Texas! I reckon it will be
at least three years if not longer before we even make it to California.

Since I have CRS and CRAFT I will be asking for suggestions on making the
Alaska trip when the time comes and would be MORE than happy to have as much
company as possible!

Wouldn't it be great to have a half dozen or more GMC's in convoy up to
Alaska!

Rob,

If I may make a suggestion: Y'All might want to consider moving the Alaska
trip closer to the top of the queue. While not necessarily real strenuous,
there are things you'll want to do up there -- a little hiking, some
fishing, etc -- that will become more taxing as you age. That, plus the
scenic memories you'll have for the rest of your life, mean to me that
sooner is better than later. Besides, one day you may want to repaint
Double Trouble -- AFTER the trip to Alaska. :-)

We'd love to go again, but I'm not sure we're still up to it.

JWID,

Ken H.

Ken,

You mean the aches and pains I have now are going to get WORSE!

DAMN! ;-)

Good point on the paint job!

Guess I'll have to raise these points with management.

JWID,

Ken H.

Don't forget the work rally here in Chico CA this weekend.

The Gale Winery tour and tasting is set for 5pm Friday.
I am also providing a catered dinner at the winery for
everyone at 6:30. No cost, but you can buy your wine from
Steve Gale.

Saturday is a 'no-host' buffet dinner at Kwando.
Very affordable and all-you-can-eat.

Gene Fisher is organizing a swap meet as well.

We have room to work on 4 coaches indoors, also have
second warehouse across town if needed.
Also free camping (boondocking) at the winery.

We need a head count so please get back to me by this Wed.

Contact me if you have questions/ideas.
