Yes. I was just looking at APRS. You have got hams running all over the place down there. There are even some running around the desert way east and south of you. I saw you were up in town at 7 PM.
I'm just at the airport sandblasting some new brackets I made so I can tow my Blazers. We have 3 of them so I decided to make a set of brackets so I can tow them using the tow hooks on the front. Now If my welder would just show up I would be done with this project. I probably should make a set for my Colorado also.
A side note for anyone with a 4 WD Blazer. You can put the transfer case in Neutral by turning on the key with out starting, shifting to neutral and pressing 2WD and 4wd LOW for 10 seconds. Then go quickly to reverse and drive. You can then put it in park and the transfer case will stay in neutral. It will stay in neutral until you press another drive selection button.

I heard from another friend, that's down there, a few hours ago. He said there has been a steady stream coming in all day.
We should be there well before noon. See you then!

Last year there were several places in town where I went to get on WiFi. McDonalds and a restaurant on the north side of the main drag were two of them. There was also a towing company that probably wondered why I was sitting out front of their shop several days in a row. I suspect they were pretty use to tourists doing weird things around there. I can not remember if Pilot had WiFi or not. I also remember that the library did not have any WiFi service. Things could have changed over the last year.

Steve,
I'm sorry your having a problem.
Ken Burton should come in here with an explanation.
Something to do with antenna I think. Not Tengonet.
Like Billy I have had good service with it at several
parks. Have you talked to the park provider your
staying at? I think it is their problem.

Steve,
We have Tengonet here at the RV park here in Tucson and it works fairly well. They have 13 antennas that provides coverage. It does slow down during prime time. My guess is that they don't have enough bandwidth available for the rally.

All,
There are too many variables between your computer, the wireless interface,
the air, the access point, it's interface with a line that handles a certain
amount of bandwidth, and all the routers along the path to a web page or
mail host.
The problem could be primetime use. The internet connection is shared among
all the users at the park. Next, as has been suggested, is the bandwidth
that the system rests on. It could be that the particular park only bought a
slow DSL line is running through an ISP that offered some cheap service.
Tengonet, in general, does an excellent job of installation of the wireless
systems. From what I understand they do their best to hire installers that
know what they're doing so that the parks are adequately covered with a
minimum of overlap that can cause some interference. Tengo's specialty
happens to be RV parks. Still, they're at the mercy of what that park is
using for the line leading to the internet.
Heck, rain and leaves or other vegetation can even effect performance.
I would place more blame on the park than on the system installed unless, of
course, the installer really didn't know what they were doing.
One time I stayed at a KOA where the owner said he had just spent $8,000
getting free wireless installed. I asked what kind of line did he have to
the internet. He said he had a DSL line and couldn't afford the faster
variety.
Actually, there were multiple problems. First, the company that did the
installation walked off with a lot of money. Second, there was no way his
little pipeline to the internet could handle a flow rate of one gallon per
minute. He needed a bigger pipe. Third, the company selling their pathetic
service should have set some expectations. Bottom line, the KOA owner gave
too much money to the wrong guys when he could have hired some techy high
school kids to do the job and use the other $6,000 to subscribe to some
descent experience.
How do I know the company ripped of the owner of the KOA? There were only
three access points all set to the same channel trying to provide "free
WiFi" to all of those locations where there was lots of shade. Somebody was
brilliant enough to at least have the same SSID. Further proof that things
happen.
The performance reminded me of the days of the 28K modem; not even as good
as 56K.

I have seen just about every screw up possible in RV parks. Unfortunately the park operators usually do not have a clue as to what the problem is or if they even have a problem in the first place. They think throwing money at it will fix it and usually the money goes to some inept local guy who hasn't got a clue as to how to set up and wireless network with more than one Access Point.
Sometimes the problem resides with the client / end user. They do not understand that at this frequency that they need to be with in a line of sight path to the Access Point. It get worse than that as you get farther away from the access point. You need line of sight plus some additional clearance. for something called a Fresnel zone. The easy way to figure out f this s the problem is to simply move your machine or your coach and try again.
If I were on site I could run some quick tests, and also look at number of users to try to identify where the problem is. Since I am remote to the problem without the ability to sign on to their network devices there is not much I can do other than guess as to what the issue might be.
Since most RV users are only doing email and some low bandwith web browsing, bandwidth is not normally an issue in most parks. It only takes a few users watching TV or listening to music on the Internet to change that scenario and gobble up a lot of bandwidth. If this is indeed the problem where you are you will see long response times and later very good service as those high demand users come and go away.
Most RV park problems are caused by a poor wireless installation followed by poor user locations within the park coverage area.

Well it took me a long time to come to WiFi. It was thanks to many folks here that got me going. Now that I look back, I keep telling myself, " what took you so long? "
Of course the next step in WiFi is finding a place to access it.
My first experience was at the COOP RESORT, hosted by Jim Bounds.
That was an exciting thing going live the first time. Many thanks for Jim offering his internet to us GMC'ers.
Don't expect free WiFi at Walt Disney World. They have got this thing with making a dollar with every move you make and just can't get beyond holding that hand out. they charge(d) $25 a day for wifi access. They do offer dial up for free if you are able to access it.
NOW, McDonalds offers FREE WiFi. I tried it, it works. Not a bad speed, you have to go through a ceremony every time to access and you wont be spinning any tires with its speed but its ok.
There is a map on the net someone graciously listed here that showed all the "free" WiFi spots. Take it with a grain of salt. In my area, it was a 50-50 deal where 50 percent were free and 50 percent were free but you needed a password or they just did not work. The map, is a great help however so if you have the link, keep it.
One place I remembered had WiFi, and was not listed on the map, was the Lake County Court House. They offer WiFi for the poor soles waiting to go to court to be jury duty, but is not on the map. I tried parking outside, got the signal and it was fast. The strength was 'VERY GOOD'.
These new small net books come with the WiFi ready to go, battery operated, and are pretty convenient to carry. The keyboard takes some getting used to thought and I find, though I am a typist, you need to use the "two finger" technique or the computer will do strange things as fingers hit keys you don't want to. I am not fond of the flat pad mouse but it will do in a pinch.
Anyone using the new NetPhones? How do you like it? Does the cost of service make it worth while?
Funny how we need this silly thing, the Net!

NEED? I think that is somewhat subjective. Want, desire, find very useful, yes; NEED,or must have no, not for most individuals.
