The Big Twinkie came with two CB's and antennas. Not sure if either works. Does anyone use these anymore? I kinda want them off my dashboard.
Related question: What do I do to restore the dash that is full of holes from various attachment screws? I was thinking an easy fix would be to paint and cover with carpet dash pad that Jim B sells.

If you do want to keep the CB, you might hang it on the wall under the drivers left elbow.

It probably won't do any harm to hang onto it, could come in handy in a pinch. I'm sure that they are nowhere near as popular as they were in the 70s, but they still work and may get you help if you're in an area with no cell phone coverage.
As for the dash, you can either recover it (Jim Bounds does this), replace it ($$$$$), or get a dash cover. I chose the dash cover as an easy, relatively inexpensive way, to dress up the dash.
Someday, I'd like to recover the dash with 'pleather', but that's pretty far down on my list of things to do.

If you intend to caravan you should keep the CB.
When we caravan we run on channel 5. Example:
7 coaches caravaned back to the Dallas/Ft. worth
area from the Classics rally Sunday. 2 of the 7
did not have .CB's. They used phones or were in
the dark when something happened.

What you have sounds like a co phased antenna system. Usually they use a top loaded fiberglass stick commonly on them to get the load of the antenna up as high as possible. What connects the two antennas is a co phased coax. Buy a simple cb radio, and a inexpensive swr meter to check to make sure the antennas coax are tuned. I suggest the swr 2t which is about $14 Usually you'd want to see a SWR meter reading below 1.5
Having a cb radio is the best way to find real time traffic conditions, how to go around a accident, and fuel prices (plus everything else under the sun) While cb radio has gotten worse through the years as far as language it does provide a great way to keep up to the minute on road conditions. If you have questions about setting or checking the antenna, or help troubleshooting it, email me I'd be glad to walk you through it.
OOPS I just re-read your post that your rig came with (2) cb radios and antennas thats odd! lol Was one maybe just a spare unit? Whats the name, model, or description?

What a cash cow, two CB's. Even better if they are intalled.
Ok, ok
CB radio was the rage in the 70s. They were everywhere and most cars and all trucks had them for travel info. Remember CW McCall song " CONVOY ".... That song was supposed to be a promo for something and it caught on like wild fire.
Move ahead to todays use.
If you are traveling alone ( as in one GMC ), you can listen to channel 19 where the truckers give out smokey reports and tell fellow truckers about accidents, traffic delays, etc. Listening in can help you be informed or even divert to bypass the problems.
If travel in convoy with 1 or more other GMCers, you guys can talk back and forth, NOT ON chan 19, go fine a channel that is quiet like 7. If you are only 1 channel away from 19, when you get close and are talking, you will interfer with the truckers reception, and they don't like that much for some reason.
The CB might be a bit noisy but you can squelch the sound down a bit and the cb is reliable if set up right. The newer hand held high freq radios are supposed to be an improvment but I've had problems with mine.
Keep the CB...
