My onan 4Kw genset was working fine until I popped the fuse on the aft
panel-(long stupid story). I used a larger fuse and got it to run. Then it
wouldn't on later tries. I did not consider the very real possibility of
being on the side of the Ave.in front of my house (unlevel) and the fact
that there was very low fuel. I tried to adjust the timing to no avail and
had spark at one time. Now I am not getting any spark from the coil. Did I
fry the circuit board? I have rebuilt a Toyota truck engine and know how to
do advanced auto work (ie..clutches, timing, head gaskets, marine 2 stroke
overhauls) but this has me stumped! Any ideas before I drop a few bills?
Respectfully,
Stephen

Stephen,
The "long stupid story" and the "larger fuse" may be the keys to your
problem. I've seen several Onan control boards with conductors melted on
the back side due to such incidents. You should first download
http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/dsimmons/onan/onan.html
<http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/dsimmons/onan/onan.html>and
http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/dsimmons/onan/OnanQuickTroubleShootingAid.pdf
to be sure the problem is on the board. If it's the board, remove it (label
all the wires first), turn it over, and if you find burned traces, either
repair them or contact Duane Simmons for a replacement board.
