I have changed a lot of plugs in my life and have never ever noticed a bit of difference--not only between brands, but between new ones and old ones. Unless I have a misfire of some sort, I never replace them anymore. And when I did have a misfire, it was never due to a plug.

Gary, if your plug is a year old, you have the good ones.
They will last a long time as the new fuels and the HEI ignition keeps
the plugs clean.

Gary,
I cannot think of anything Howell would do to change the way plugs behave. The mixture is going to be right on, even during warm up so the plugs should have an easy life.
I had a rough idle. Fiddled with the EBL, Spark advance, fuel, etc. Idled rough. Distributor, plugs and wires were relatively new. I began trying some things.
Went to the XR51X at O'Reilly's.
No change
Went to a new wire set
No change
Matched the pickup coil to the coil
Idled much better
Pickup wires must be lug white-green if you have a red-yellow coil. The green-white came on my rebuilt Cardone distributor, but I used my Olds distributor which is red-yellow. That is a no no.

Best Wishes,
George

Really no GMC content,,,,but,,,,changed the plugs on the "Boss's" Saturn. A little late though. 110k miles. Gap on one was .083!!!!!! or 83 thousands.Really eroded. Still ran well. Not much improvement. NEVER run that large on a GMC,,,would probably blow the control module!!!!,,,,PL

I think that what is not being said here is that Dick made this discovery on
a dyno. His roundy-round 355 SBC engines run at extremely high rpm. If
anyone would notice as change in plug performance, it would be Dick. Based
on his findings, he has found a suitable replacement that performs like the
older RF #7 plugs. Dick has always recommencded RF#7 plugs in the past
because their extreme heat range was very compatible with the engines in our
GMCs. If Dick is making a recommendation, I would follow it based on
changes he personally sees during the rigorous testing he puts his engines
through.
If you've got the old style RF#7s, use 'em. If not, follow his
recommendations. How could you possibly lose?
