The question today is how do you tell the difference between the leading and trailing brake shoes. And is it correct to assume that the leading shoe goes toward the front of the coach?
On our coach, on the driver's side, both wheels are shoed (?) the same -
On the passenger side, one wheel is one way and the other wheel is opposite - clearly one set of shoes is wrong.
So is the leading shoe the one that has MORE lining on it, or does the leading shoe have LESS lining on it?
As always,
Thanks you for your help!

Leading shoe has less lining and goes to the front of the vehicle. With
the floating piston arrangement, the front or leading shoe provides part
of the friction and pushes harder on the trailing shoe. Thus, the
trailing shoe is applied harder and can use a larger friction area

Robert,
The fact that you are missing these parts yet the auto adjust mechanism
works properly has got me beat!
I would suggest you forward this information to the GMC net and see what the
consensus is.

Thanks for the reply Rob. Manual 7725, page 5-4 shows the exploded view. The
parts are 10 and 13. In the parts manual all the springs are listed as part
of a kit. There are 7 springs on each of my wheels. This makes 8 in the
diagram.
The auto adjust mechanism seems to work normally. All four wheels are fully
assembled and adjusted.
Hope I am not missing a screw myself.
Robert
