As mentioned in a earlier post, yesterday I had two Modules go South on me. The first was only six months old, the second was, I thought a good spare. (It was for about 10 minutes.)
Both Modules are Delco.
What I noticed when changing them was the Coil and BAT wire being very Hot.
Is this normal?

That would seem to indicate the module failed in short mode, hmm. I would think it would fail open.

I am "new" to the HEI (my '73 doesn’t have one) but isn't there supposed to be thermal paste under that module?

My Audi has ignition modules with similar function... they burn up if you forget the paste. (I normally get the paste at a computer store... it is used between the CPU and CPU cooler/fans.)

I need to get a new module for my '78, keeping the one currently in the coach as a spare. Replacing a working module is a good way to ensure you have "known" good spare.

Mac,

Those symptoms, added to the module failures, would sure make me
suspicious of the coil.

Hmmm, I changed Cap, Rotor and Module, Methinks that I will go back and do some testing, thanks much.
BTW, I did use paste.
