I have a pair of those wheels on the front of mine. At least they look very
similar - mine are off a Chevy 2500. The bolt pattern is the same, but you will
need new lug nuts. In that time period GM used metric threads and you need
'Merican threads. Lug nuts cost me about $35, but others have found them
cheaper. The wheels have about 2 inches less offset than wheels for dualies, so
they work okay in the front, giving the same offset as adding the spacers that
some sell. But in the rear, even though some have used them, I don't think they
will clear the bodywork very well. The wheels have a larger center so will be
lug centered, which some say is unacceptable. I see no problem, as the tapered
lug nuts will center the wheel adequately - at least in my opinion.
Gary Casey
Looking at buying a GMC and it needs new tires. Still has 16.5in wheels, so I
would like to change over to 16in at the same time. In an effort to make my
money stretch a little further, would these wheels work?
http://bend.craigslist.org/pts/2072980533.html
I'm guessing load and offset may be incompatable.

Dan, I went to eat dinner and when I returned, Mike had posted the link.
That wheel pictured is indeed a 1 ton Chev or GMC FRONT radial wheel from
the late 90's. The machined piece in the center of the wheel is a hub
extender that I make so that the wheel is hub centered when you use spacers
to clear the 80 MM brake calipers and some of the OEM ones when the hub is
fitted with new rotors. Those wheels are still around and sell new for
around $75- $90. I bought mine used for $25.00 when I put my B.F. Goodrich
T/A's on. The wheel and tire that I used is the same circumference as the
OEM 16.5's were, so the speedo reads the same. I had them media blasted and
powder coated, but they could just as easily be painted with good urethane
base/clear and it would probably be just as durable. A friend of mine just
bought 7 American Eagle Dually wheels from Les Schwab for $193.56 ea., the
center caps were $25.00 each, and the lug nuts were $255.00. That figures
out to be around $1784.92 for the wheels, caps, and lug nuts. He mounted
Wildcat HT Rib Blackwalls LT225/75R-16 10Ply Rated for another $1124.20.
Comes to $2909.12, by the time you throw in the mounting and balancing, it
kicks the hell out of $3000.00. The steel wheels can be a less expensive
option for some of us. I will admit the aluminum wheels are an attractive
addition to the GMC, but they don't go round and round much differently than
a good set of carefully selected steel wheels. It don't tick you off nearly
so much when you scrape a curb with the steel wheels either. All that aside,
buy what you want and enjoy the coach like you and Teri do. Use the heck out
of it and build a huge scrapbook of memories along the way. Happy New Year
to one and All.

Jim,
I hate to tell you this but your friend just threw away $525.27!
He obviously did not check Jim K's website where you can buy:
Eagle Wheels - (W1015) Price: $179.95 Each. Complete with nuts and S.S.
center. Seven times $179.95 equals $1259.65

Rob, I said he was a friend with a GMC, I didn't say that he was a "smart
shopper". But I will say this about that. When you buy tires and related
stuff from Les Schwab Tires, when you pull into any of their locations in
the Great Pacific Northwest, the guys literally run out to meet you, and
they will fix flats if you buy from them for free, and when they send a road
service truck to your location, they behave the same way. Great service, not
the cheapest.
When my wife and I had our Flower Shop, they always did our tire work and
funny thing, all those Les Schwab guys shopped in our flower shop. Clean cut
guys, clean uniforms, courteous, girls loved them. Sold them lots of flowers
through the years. Ah, small business Americana at it's finest example.
Actually, I personally shop for most things GMC with Jim K for the same
reason. Hustle, competent, friendly, great service, Jim and Grace are good
people and good friends to GMCers. Nick and the rest of the gang there act
the same way.

free rotation

they clearly are the best, ( only in the great north-west,) but they are
down to here in Livermore, ca, and my Orgn location of Florence. I will
give them all of my tire work, but--- they just don't have much for the GMC.
Just an excellent company

Jim,
Those look like they're off of a 3500, not 2500.

Steve, I think that is what I said, 1 Ton or 3500 Model, not the 3/4 Ton.
Actually I think that they are used on the bigger trucks as well, up to the
point where the larger brakes requires the use of larger diameter wheel
centers. Anyway, they are very abundant out there in the Mens Mall & tire
shops.
