Mat,

I would to know who that guy is, I have tried to out bid him on some
wood working tools and he has the best software, he gets it every
time.

He is not limited to wood working tools or GMC items he is all over
the place. He must be like the Pickers on TV.

Ken,

If they use an automatic bidding program it's to make sure it will bid in
the last seconds of the auction. ;-)

I still don't understand why they'd start running the price up so
early. Why not test it during the last hour? Or even day? No use
putting everyone into a feeding frenzy if you're really interested in
buying something. Makes me dubious about intentions. :-)

Make a minimal bid early. Set up your eBay screen
so that items you are bidding on appear at the top
of your screen. That way it's easy to see what the
status of bidding is. Don't worry about competing
in a bidding war. Decide the maximum you will pay.
Enter THAT bid in one of the "sniping" sites and
walk away. Check status about 15 minutes before
auction end. If it has gotten above what your
"snipe" bid is, you have two choices. Walk away
OR modify your maximum sniping bid to a new maximum.
Then walk away again and let it all proceed unwatched.
If you win, you win. If you lose in the end, you
still win 'cause you haven't succumbed to your own
hysteria!

Ken,
Some people don't know how to work an auction.
They pay through the nose. Macdonald and Mueller
have the right idea. At the rate the idiots are
bidding, this bag will go over $300.00. No
assurance it's a new bag. There was no date
code shown in any of the pictures. According to
Firestone everything manufactured from 1995
on had date codes. I think Emery published that
information on the list just last month.

Mac and I are on the same page. Set up an esnipe account http://esnipe.com/ and don't get caught up in the bidding frenzy. I won the leather captain chairs for my 73 for $200 less than I was willing to pay and it made an esnipe believer out of me. Check it out, good luck and Merry Christmas.

Sort of makes me suspicious of schilling and that is why I like esnipe. Once I decide what I want to pay I place my bid with esnipe and take my chances. I've won more often than not. JWID

Mac / Dick,

I bought Auction Auto Bidder years ago after I got into a bidding war and
wound up making a seller VERY happy!

As you can see from item 220715110366 the opening bid is $9.99 and that's a
one time payment. It's cost effective if you buy lots of stuff off eBay.

The down side is that you have to have your PC up and running and connected
to the Internet by a high speed connection or it ain't gonna work well.

Regards,

With eSnipe, you pay the equivalent of 1% of
your winning bid. They have a minimum of 25
bid points (equal to 25 cents). They also
have a maximum, which I think is $10 which
would correspond to a bid of $1,000. You
pay absolutely nothing to bid if you don't
win the auction.

I have forgotten the amount I have spent to
bid, but I have bought many thousands of
dollars in costs of old antique ham radio
equipment PLUS even two motorcycles for my
wife!

I'm a VERY happy user of eSnipe.

Check out esnipe. I did not have to buy anything and you only pay IF you win. Their fees are next to nothing if you do win and you do not have to have your pc on etc... They bid on your behalf 6 seconds before the auction closes and their bid only goes to the next increment. I don't recall the numbers but thought I hit the lotto when I won the seats for $200 less than I was willing to pay. I think I was in church when the auction ended (hum-mm maybe that had something to do with it <G>)   I haven't used it recently but when I have I've been successful 90+% of the time. Merry Christmas

Mac and I are on the same page. Set up an esnipe account
http://esnipe.com/ and don't get caught up in the bidding frenzy. I won the
leather captain chairs for my 73 for $200 less than I was willing to pay and
it made an esnipe believer out of me. Check it out, good luck and Merry
Christmas.

Make a minimal bid early.  Set up your eBay screen
so that items you are bidding on appear at the top
of your screen.  That way it's easy to see what the
status of bidding is.  Don't worry about competing
in a bidding war.  Decide the maximum you will pay.
Enter THAT bid in one of the "sniping" sites and
walk away.  Check status about 15 minutes before
auction end.  If it has gotten above what your
"snipe" bid is, you have two choices.  Walk away
OR modify your maximum sniping bid to a new maximum.
Then walk away again and let it all proceed unwatched.
If you win, you win.  If you lose in the end, you
still win 'cause you haven't succumbed to your own
hysteria!

Mac,

I agree if you are a casual user of eBay eSnipe is cost effective and
simpler.

However, if you check my eBay user name relleumt you'll see I've got 1617
Feedbacks and I ga ron tee paying eSnipe 1% would not have been a hell of a
lot more than the $14.95 I paid for Auction Auto Bidder!

While not particularly relevant to US residents they charge a special fee
for overseas purchases.

This reminds me that I've been meaning to ask if anyone still has any new airbags in stock, now that Firestone discontinued them. With all the little details and issues I've run into since buying the coach, this is one question I forgot to follow-up on.

The bags on mine are OK for now (a little bit hotdogged, but just minor), but I would like a new set in stock for "some day". The new retrofit bag systems are fine, but this coach is so original and preserved that I want to keep it that way if at all possible.

Ken,
There are a variety of methods. I determine the absolute price I'll pay
for an item, then bid that amount and let Ebay do the rest. If someone
wants it more than I do, it will cost them more than I have determined the
item is worth. I bought that Gold Wing last fall for thousands less than
book value. The second way I've been successful is to wait until the last
10 seconds, have everything ready, then confirm. The only other way I've
heard of is to use a sniping program, or do the "buy it now" thing.
Ebay has been catching a lot of folks with friends who do a little
"pushing" when asked. Two of my friends just got nailed, and deservedly
so. You only get one second chance.

Netters;
I bid the same way as Steve.
Know your price limit.
Then bid that limit and sit back.
You only pay the next step over what the last bid was up to your price
limit.
If the last bid was say $10.00 and your limit was $25.00 your final bid
will be $11.00 plus shipping if that is the case.
I also look at the shipping cost.
Some sellers are making the profit on the shipping .
eBay now make the seller show the full cost of shipping.
I look for free shipping to help me set the price limit.

PS Shipping Cost.
Friend of ours grandson "eight years old" buys Hot Wheels on the cheap, list
them at $1.00 over his cost and charges $2.00 over his shipping cost.
He is earning about $50.00 net a week on eBay.
