I never planned on working on this car but here it is Sunday night before a trip.

MOST of the CV axle is out, the inner end is locked in. The inner CV joint came out, with dry spots, rust, and not much grease.

I've applied a considerable force to it with pry bars. It ain't moving

I feel for you working on that van this late on sunday night.

The Inner axle where it goes into the transaxle, is held on by a snap ring that is on the end of the splined portion of the shaft that goes into the trans axle.

I usually have the things on a lift as a long (2') prybar is what I use to break the shaft free (and cause a river of ATF to flow out.)

So you are doing the correct thing, I suspect more force is needed.

7 hours ago i had an undiagnosed vibration in the family minivan.

Mac correctly diagnosed the CV joint.

Here's what I learned about that; when the outer joint fails it produces the typical clicking and knocking during turns.

But when the inner joint fails it results in a rumbly vibration.,

I guess inner joint failure is far less common but in this case, the clamp was missing and the joint was dry an rusty inside.

Then there was the mystery of the inner snap ring.

I've changes afew CV's over the years and this was a surprise. But without a book i was completely baffled. I didn't if i was supposed to apply more force or dive further into the trans.

Wayne Barratt confirmed the snap ring and that I needed to give it more force.

The bottom line is I would have been completely screwed without you guys.

I did post my questions on a Chrysler minivan forum, so far no one has answered.

Dave,

It's simple; we help you because we feel sorry for you because you own a
Revcon! ;-)

It baffles us that you even note you are a "Happy owner!" Double ;-)
