Any ideas?

I just got a super deal on a suburban furnace SF-F 30 and am going to
install it in the same place the Sol Aire was. Has anyone successfully done
this or have any ideas to make this as easy as possible. Again thank you to
anyone with any info on this subject. Pictures are with a thousand words if
possible.
Thank you

There are some pictures that should help you on the photo site. Look under interior modifications - it's posted on the first page by dennis lecomte (sp?).

Probably more than you wanted to know, but it is definitely do-able.

Boy, Denis sure did a great job. I installed one of those a couple of years back. We just ripped the entire kitchen out and that made it easier. After installing the new SF we built the kitchen around it. I had to remove it last year to test it but no big deal. Found the problem was one of the thermostat wires was broken inside the ceiling. You can do it if I can. Bring that bad boy to Quartzsite and Ken B, Carl S, and I will get it in there for you. Very Happy

John,

Are there any more where you got the good deal. Our furnace is on its last legs.

Do you really have to add a plenum to the shell? Could you not just use the
vent collars on the stock unit and use a T in the vent along the galley
floor and run 4 inch flex vent to both registers. Then use the second 4 inch
collar facing the rear of the coach all the way to the back of the rig use a
T once again above the area where the water pump is stored and use a reducer
to run 2-2 1/2 off that T to the bathroom? Just a question not a great
metal worker so that would be easier. Thanks for any type of help you can
give.

I uninstalled my furnace and the reinstalled it. I noticed that your looks like mine however I have 4 vents otherwise they look the same.
It looks like my furnace had to be put on a small platform so the exhaust vents lined up.
I ran my 12v wires a little different. I kept the original ones that go across the coach, but I added #8 power wire and spliced it in direct at the furnance to the house battery so there is no voltage loss. A small run of #8 shows super low loss and my furnace lights up great now.

No. Air is not like water where you can just tap into it and get apx the same pressure as you started with. We use inches of water column to measure air pressure in a duct as apposed to pounds per square inch to measure water pressure.

If you want to use one duct to go two places you should start with a 5" duct off the plenum and then use a wye, not a tee, to reduce both down to 4". Air is lazy and will not turn 90 degrees if it can go straight so a 4x4x4 tee does little good.

Tim, soon to be a GMC owner rather than a wanna be .

John, here is a link to my photo album, where we installed the furnace. It has been two years now so I can't say this will help you. Just take a look. You can see it in there without the kitchen counter.
