Was on the Webrodder site and noticed that Doc Frohmader (author of the Big Inch Cadillac book) had an article on R&R of Toro wheel bearings. Noticed it wasn"t a Toro!! Sent him an email and asked if it was true and he confirmed a 76 P.B. I like reading his articles and the book is pretty good too,,,,,PL

That is one great article...
If we can't work out downloading or capturing it somehow, maybe we should just ask for a copy to post on member access only sites and barring that, buy some limited rights to reproduce this. (I have (on very rare occasion) sold or allowed rights to limited reproduction.)

As the tech guy for GMCES, I vote to add that to the library.

I was a little surprised that he didn't mention that the ball joints are not
interchangeable between Toro/Eldo & GMC. Nor the availability of offset
bushings for more caster, to our advantage.

Since they sell printed copies, I wouldn't be too optimistic about getting
rights to post it on our sites.

Matt, I have a complete copy of this file on my hard drive, and there is already copy of it on your hard drive, too. Find your cache of "Temporary Internet Files" and look for a file named "573.swf". Location of these files depends on which operating system you are using.

I am using XP, and my temporary files are located at: C:\Documents and Settings\Erv\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. In Vista they are much harder to find, but they are there.

I copied this file to my GMC folder and renamed it, then drag/dropped it into an open browser window. I can now print the complete article, or selected pages from it. It is a shockwave file, but looks and handles much like a PDF file.

That is OK for my personal use, but doesn't take care of getting the article posted on the GMCES site, or making it available to anyone else. You're the Tech Guy so I'll let you figure that one out. Cool

In comparison, the original SWF file is 1.3 Mb. I also converted it to a PDF file, but it was 6.76 Mb (using PDF 995)

However, they both look the same on the screen, and both are selectable and printable.

I did forget about one thing - when I dropped the SWF file into my browser I got a warning about opening an ActiveX file, and I had to give permission to open it.

Brings to mind the old saying "More than one way to skin a possum.....

Emery, that is not what I was referring to - the SWF file CAN be posted anywhere, also.

The question I had was about posting proprietary information (without permission) on another web site. They do state that the article can be read online or it can purchased as a printed copy, so I assume they would not want it posted somewhere else, or passed around freely.

Or should one not be concerned with giving away someone else's work?

Gene,

There's a picture of the "Applied puller" being used on page 8.

Jim,

Could you provide some more details as to what you did "once with him only?"
Did you teach Doc how to do this job? If you didn't charge him for the
lesson he might be amenable to letting us put it on the GMCMI website in the
Members only area to limit the amount of people that would have access.

not what we are going to do (limit amount of people)

we want to:
1 give credit to author and organization
2 expand the message to the community of interest
3 make them famous for doing a great job
4 make no profit from their effort.

seems to me, they would love for us to re-publish their effort, and
Member-only area is a good idea.

Right on the FAQ page itsays it is all protected content; actually it is all flash prgramming, so it is not printable. Eventually they might do memberships and you could download pdfs . . . or not. Wink
